Fake Muzzle Brake or Flash hider...ideas?

If your barrel is 16 inches, I'd recommend a plain barrel cap so that you don't have any unnecessary weight and length for no benefit.
Unless of course your building for looks.

@turbobike what is exactly a fake muzzle brake? What do you have in mind? Any examples?

oh ok. I don't know,they do not serve any useful purpose and if you have to service the barrel
then you are in trouble. I would personally choose a sleeve that the gas block can slide over.
Clamp are ideal for this even if the od is a tad over the .750. Steel better.
Or otherwise get a 2 part gas block but they are bulky and heavier.

IMO I don't think this is a problem. It might call attention but at the same time it is what it is.
Device is a bit arbitrary anyway plus there is nothing in the law written about fake compensators or fake muzzle brakes.
I think device would be something that serves a purpose and a fake anything serves no purpose other than perhaps covering permanently
the threads if pinned.

If it isn't a flash suppressor, muzzle brake, compensator, or silencer, it is legal as long as it is pinned and welded.
The fake ones are none of the above.

Pinned and welded? why welded? It is extra work and it doesn't make a difference nor anybody is asking for it.

I actually don't know the procedure but every AR I've bought from a factory and not built had a muzzle brake pinned and spot welded over the pin.

Not RRA, STAG, ATI and many others. The sold hundreds of them with just a pin. All the major retailers too. LGS's that I know too.
Those were sold as permanent method under the previous ban and the current ban doesn't mention that the permanently attached devices
under the previous ban are less permanent today than what they were before. I think this might have started after some of the older federal ban requirements
or from shorter barrel compliance but nothing to do with NY.
In fact this question came up during the NYSP education sessions and they said pins only should be ok as they were before.

don't see the benefit over a plain cap like was mentioned earleir in this thread. Truthfully i think it's ridiculous unless you need to meet a length requirement.
