.223 Rem
With all of the many different types of guns out there and different personalities we have here, it makes me wonder what you guys like. What do you consider your favorite type of firearm? Get as specific or general as you like, and definitely explain what draws you to it.
My tastes are very different between handguns and long guns.
When it comes to handguns, I love revolvers. Any quality revolver. Double action, single, whatever. From .22s to big-bore magnums, I love them all as long as their actions are tight with clean triggers. Everything about a revolver does it for me. The rounded lines, the way you see the action move the cylinder into alignment with the barrel, the flames that burn out of the cylinder gap. Plunking rounds down into the chambers, whether one-by-one or all-at-once with a speed loader. The soft-shooting specials and fire-breathing magnums. The rollllll-crack of a DA trigger and the crisp snap of a SA trigger. Bopping the rod to eject the spent shells from the cylinders or popping them out one-by-one through the loading gate. To me, they have soul in a way that no semi-auto pistol does. They may not have the capacity of semi-autos, but pack enough more punch in every weight class to somewhat mitigate that fact. Where I see semi-autos purely as utility like a multitool or a flashlight, a revolver feels like more than that. It's an accessory in the same way a handsome watch is much more than a time-telling instrument.
As far as long guns, I love the AR-15 platform. It can be great at almost anything you could want. One lower and you can be two punched pins away from thousands of possible different configurations. Short barrels, long, small bores, big. Scope, irons, red dot, holographic. Home defense, varminting, medium game, big game, running around in full battle-rattle, shooting close in tight quarters, shooting at targets far away... hell, you can get a freaking muzzleloader upper. It's not the best option for every given task, it IS the best option for some, and outside of very specialized competitions, you'd be hard pressed to find a practical application where an AR downright sucks. Even NY's bullshit laws manage not to wreck its utility.
