Poor hygiene caused the illness, though chickens are a potential vector, not washing properly is the root cause. Other animals can cause the illness too, so chickens are getting a bad rap. If you don't nuzzle your chickens and wash up after being around them, then there's no problem. I've had chickens for over 20 years without health issues. More fake news....

I will have to say that while I am appreciative to our chickens, the thought of snuggling up to them has never crossed my mind.

my mom and her sisters used to put doll clothes on chickens when they were kids .. all they got was a case of chicken lice ..

I would say there research is flawed .. did they even look at the idea the humans got contaminated first from another source then passed on to the chickens
... hummmmm ...
