Firearms: Tools Or Objects Of Personal Expression?

Well, what say you good members of the forum? Should firearms be impersonal tools or highly adaptive and personal objects of expression?

Personally, I feel that everyone should be allowed to customize their guns as much as they see fit. However, I suppose there may be circumstances (an armory for a militia, national guard, etc.) where things should all be issued uniformly.

Simple, the arms of citizens are, whether tool or toy, are as individual as the owner and are thus expressions of its owner's individuality. When used as tools of the trade for military or law enforcement use, for purposes of logistical simplicity, they should be uniform in configuration. When used as an issued tool it is important that they be as interchangeable from one person to another as possible. Where such tools are procured with personal funds however it's only natural that some personalization occurs.

Nothing wrong with personalizing a fire arm to suit ones taste people have been doing just that since before there were fire arms.

It can be considered a tool of course and nothing wrong or conflicting there either. Many craftsman made their own tools to make this fancy tools.

Is it necessary? Of course not, but it satisfies an inner need in some of us, and the inner need to possess and appreciate such work by others.
Our own 'American Long Rifle' is often referred to Americas first original art form.

And even associated accoutrements.

My own thought are that it is a reflection of a prosperous society or culture when men have the time to spontaneously express themselves in what we call the arts. The world would be a much bleaker place without them.
