First batch of 7.5x55 Schmidt-Rubin

Finally got my first batch of 7.5x55mm made. I would have had a nice 100, but I fucked up two brass.

The Lee Autodrum rifle tube was at its limit. I almost screwed out all the way to drop 45.0gr (it was consistently dropping 45.2) but that's fine. The "Not Exceed" in both the Lee manual and Hodgdon website was 49.0gr.

Case: PPU
Bullet: Hornady A-Max 168gr
Powder: H4831SC
Primer: Federal No. 205 large rifle
COL: 3.0125"

Managed to salvage one of the cases, so 99 rounds now. The other case was beyond salvage so I turned it into a key chain for my gun lock keys.

Waste not.

I think I read somewhere that 7.5x55 actually uses a .308 diameter bullet. Is this true? I guess it must given your bullet selection.

I usually only make 5 or 10 of a new recipe and make sure they work before I go into mass production.

Those are really great rifles they deserve custom stuff.

That's true. In worst case I can always put my pile driver to use and take them apart but I don't anticipate any issues.

In retrospect I should have done 10 first.

Was this virgin Brass? If so, did you size it first?
Have you tried chambering a round?
I found the 178gr A-Max had an ogive a bit far out that made chambering them difficult.
Haven't loaded any 7.5 Swiss in quite a few years.
