First Bolt action rifle

I just purchased a Ruger American 6.5 Creedmoor w/ Magpul Hunter stock as my first bolt action.

Updated: Ordered a Magpul M-Lok bipod and Leapers UTG 1-8x28mm MRC scope Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x44 AO Rifle Scope w/ Vortex Viper extended cantilever for it.

Also ordered:

• (3) Magpul 10 round pmags
• Lancer Viper Brake
  
• Glades Armory Tactical bolt handle with cross hatch knob
• Wieband mini range cube

Any opinions on a muzzle break for it?

Why a brake? It’s going to be much louder and that’s a mildly recoiling cartridge anyway. Nice rifle. I think it’s good without a brake.

I have zero familiarity with that cartridge. If I don't need it that's fine, less money I have to spend! Thanks for the info.

So true, I've been known to take an empty case or sleeve with me to the range, just in case I stop at a LGS and buy something.
To the non gun type wife all black guns look pretty much alike as do all lever actions and the same with blue and wood shotguns. Get her used to the fact that you can change barrels on a shotgun and she won't notice the difference between a 1100 and 500! And when you do get a new gun just put it in the safe for "awhile" and if she does notice it and asks you can honestly say "no it's not new I've had it for awhile".

I agree with this 100%. Not because I have to hide buying them. My wife and I really don't care what each other buys for ourselves. The reason is that my wife's name might as well be Hillary Clinton when it comes to guns. I do work on them on the dining room table in front of her when the kids are not home. She gives me the evil side eye roll when she looks at them. I figure if most of them look almost alike, she can't complain about how many I have. And she never goes in the safe.

5 hours and 20 mins Thing of it is I wasnt sure or we werent sure if I should do it being that we live in NY. I bought the gun on my card but he is the one doing the background check so I'm assuming Im not a felon. He has way more guns than I do and is a hunter like no other when it comes to deer hunting. Basically have mini parties in his garage during deer season or at the end to prepare all the meat, make sausages with cheese and other kinds of shit.

Thats cool, and as long as he fills out the paperwork its perfectly legal;not that i care, but while posting openly on the forum where cumholes trolls are known to visit, its good to maintain the appearance of legality.

Here is the result after 600 cycles with the JB compound. It worked reasonably well, I'll just have to do some minor sanding/polishing using 3M P800 WETORDRY sandpaper.

I'm still waiting for the Glades Armory tactical bolt handle and the Timney Trigger.

The bolt cycling is completely smooth now with no more corduroy zippin noise. I used some more JB bore cleaning compound with some 3M P800 sandpaper.

Last year my wife got me a Savage Axis in 308 for my birthday because she heard me saying I really wanted something in 308.

Last weekend she went to an RPD class with me, and this weekend she is going to the range with me again.

She likes shooting handguns, and she is pretty good with a rifle, but doesn't seem to have much interest in them.

I'm Sorry, but that 6.5 low recoiling rifle should have a muzzle brake on the end of the barrel, not a canoe paddle !!!!!
