first pc carbine

thinking of buying my first 9mm carbine I've pretty much narrowed the field to the Ruger and the Beretta with the Beretta holding the lead for now. I've not shot either while watching some YouTube video's 1 guy said that the Ruger was damn near as long and almost as heavy as an M4 so I went to my local gun store to compare the 2 and he was right. seems as though you would be better off buying a NY compliant M4 because it's infinitely more powerful plus you could convert it to 9mm the Ruger is easier to take down but that seems to be it's only shining light. the Beretta is but fuck ugly to my way of thinking but it's shorter and lighter while having a longer barrel than the Ruger plus in all the videos it was more accurate any thoughts or insights would be appreciated

I don't know how helpful my opinion is as I have never even seen the Beretta "in the flesh" but I really like my Ruger PCC9....I have a red dot on the top rail zeroed at 50 yards and a laser/light combo on the lower mount zeroed at 15. It fills a couple roles for my needs and I really like the take down on it (it lives in the camper under the bed when we travel). I've found that as long as I use factory magazines (I use the Ruger option, not the Glock adapter) it will shoot anything I feed it.

As an alternative to Ruger, check out Just Right Carbine Take-down Glock mag model in 9mm..mine has ben flawless...

I love my pc9! In my opinion you get a great gun for a pretty good price. Shoots great and have had 0 issues with the glock adapter and magazines. Ruger has excellent customer service as well, look up my thread on how I wrecked mine and they fixed it for free.

I agree with the assessment regarding the PC9 with Glock mags. I can reliably ding 6" steels at 50 yards offhand using the factory sights, which to me is fine for HD use. I am thinking about putting a Holosun on it, but overall love the package.

so the weight and length of the Ruger are not a concern. when I think carbine I think small and fast not long and heavy now don't get me wrong Ruger is still in the game but the thing weighs 7 pounds and is damn near as long as an M4 so I'm trying to fit this all into the whole carbine thing I have no beef with Ruger and as I said I've not fired 1 but just holding it in the store it really felt big and heavy the Beretta is only around 5 pounds is much smaller and has a longer barrel if recoil was a factor heavy wouldn't be an issue but a 7 pound 9mm is a bit much come on guy's no 1 with a storm

Are the Beretta's even NYS compliant? If you are talking about the Cx4, they have a thumbhole stock and a pistol grip that is also the magwell (just like Hipoints). Can they be made compliant in a way that isn't too absurd? Yes the ruger's are on the heavy side but they are solid platforms and the recoil impulse is so much less than say an AR9 so they are a dream to shoot.

Have you considered building one, an AR9 (while you still can mind you)? You could use a Thordsen stock to make it compliant.

1. The Beretta isn’t legal here in NY.

2. The M4 rifle with a 16 inch barrel is the carbine version of the M16.

3. Why would you choose a pistol caliber over a rifle that weighs the same? Ammo cost, recoil management, less concussion, less flash, easily suppressed, etc. Firing a rifle indoors can be very punishing to the one firing.

I really love mine!! And the after market is really great for it so far only out two years.

it must be me cause I spent almost an hour at my local gun shop holding 1 trying the sights it just doesn't work it feels heavy and doesn't swing right the rear sight is too far down the barrel. the price of $525 plus tax is acceptable and maybe this is what I'll wind up with but it will be a struggle come on guy's what else is out there or do I have to settle

You can build an AR9 or there are also adapters that go into the mag well of a regular AR that convert the lower into taking pistol mags. You'd then need to build or buy a pistol caliber upper.

I mean, if you have your pistol permit you could make an AR9 pistol with a very short barrel and it would be light weight Etc. You would just have to pin the mag to the lower so it couldn't detach. Otherwise you are stuck with limited options.

I would like to get one in a .40, only because thats what I have, but then they do not accept SIG magazines so I guess I don't see the point of getting one at all. Sucks but thats the way I see it.

Another alternative (and actually my favorite) The early models had issues, but my new version has been rock solid, they do have a break in period of 150-200 rounds..Firing Pin in Bergen, has a demo and has had thousands of rounds with no problems...street price $400ish
