FL cops burst into wrong apartment killing a US airmen for defending his home

I can’t disagree with you. It would be nice to see if they release the body cam video. I’d love to know if they yelled police 10 times and drop the gun or if it was a bust down the door and bang, bang, bang.
I’ll bet there aren’t riots in the streets for this kid and maybe they’d be warranted in this case.

Apparently the video has been released and it’s a tough call. I wouldn’t answer the door with a gun visible if some one yelled sheriffs office and knocked. The cops came to my door a while back at 1:00am on Halloween and I left my gun upstairs. I have a ring and knew it was the local cops and I knew them so there is that. This is all sorts of messed up.

No, it's not a tough call at all. The officer unloaded on the kid and didn't yell drop the gun until after he had done so. The kid was not pointing the gun at the officer, or being threatening in any way. This was an execution.

The Deputy announced three different times that he was with the Sheriffs department. As the door was opened, the Deputy was standing directly in front of the door.

From the article, the Deputy burst into the room. He did not, the shooting took place in the hallway from about 8 feet from the doorway.


As for the incorrect address.... There was no right or wrong address, kind of.

A call was made to the Police, the Police arrived and spoke with a few witnesses in regards to the call. One of the witnesses, a woman tells the Deputy the apartment number of where she thought the "fight" was coming from. He went to that address.


In this case, I hope the Deputy faces criminal charges. The Airman had a gun in his hand, that is a fact. The gun was in a stretched out arm, pointing to the ground. No immediate threat. The Deputy gave no instructions to drop the firearm, he saw the gun and shot this man to death. From all of the videos I have seen, this should go down as a bad shooting. The Deputy should be charged.

We have this thing in the United States that provides for the arming of citizens. This thing is the 2A. it does not end just because the Police decide to knock on a persons door.

Answering the door to your home with a firearm is not and should not be a death sentence. This man should not be on any Police department.

We drill “confrontations” where we learn what not to do. Yes, police officers have shot other cops because similar situations and the other officer didn’t know this was another good guy.

He responded to 911 call of people fighting . The person tells him the apartment number. After the officer knocks on the door and identifies as sheriff’s deputy, the person answers the door with a gun in his hand .

All of the other stuff about the person was not known until later .

Sad that a law abiding citizen has to concern themselves with what not to do to prevent being killed in their own home by a panicked officer. Not at all understanding why anyone thinks that is acceptable. Your sole focus is "a cop might get killed". Not one word for the INNOCENT CITIZEN who did get killed.

I think it absolutely speaks to the mentality of some police officers that they see a citizen with a gun and they would rather shoot first and ask questions later.

The officer immediately shot him 6 times before even giving him an opportunity to say a word, hear a command, make any threatening actions, even move. The victim was standing there and didn't even move. He didn't even have a chance to do anything. Cop saw he had a gun in his hand and that was his death sentence.

I've never been a cop. I've never responded to the best and worst of society. So my perspective is merely my own as a citizen and admit I'm ignorant of what I don't know. I understand there genuinely are evil criminals out there who don't respect life and that police encounter these people daily. But imo you cannot be allowed to be a police officer if you are so on edge that your view everything as an imminent threat to your life. It's incredible that no innocent bystanders were killed in the acorn incident. And that along with this shows many cops are out on patrol with extremely itchy trigger fingers.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but I. The video between the 1 and 2 minute mark where the responding officer is speaking to what appears to be a female property manager she doesn't seem very confident in what she is even saying and is just reporting here say or 2nd hand information. I even hear her say "I don't know". This could be a swatting incident between 2 neighbors that for some reason or other don't like each other etc.

(All the more reason to not live in apartment complex environments ) But similar events of police raiding wrong houses happens as well.

In the case that quote is from, the police officers on scene NEVER saw or heard from the victims . Nor did they speak to any witnesses because none approached them or were seen by the officers .

Police officers have certain requirements to take police action if they witness certain crimes such as felonies and domestic violence.
The Supreme Court decision only applied to civil actions against those officers and their department, A police officer can still face criminal charges if they don’t take certain actions such as official misconduct.

That officer had to investigate. Eventhough a department may or may not be civilly liable, the officer definitely would facing disciplinary action if he didn’t knock on that door and investigate at a minimum.

Oh I get that in your mind the life of an officer is vastly more important than the life of an innocent citizen. Thats what you keep going back to. This officer screwed up, and an innocent man is dead because it. End of discussion.
