Flash Cans

Midwest Industries just released their own flash can:

As with other flash cans, it specifically says that it "does not reduce recoil or flash." So, it should be good, when pinned to a barrel, under SAFE. Right?

If so, the design is flash hider like in appearance.

Anyone have experience using the KAK can?

I have target crown barrels. Just thinking about one for looks. No different, really, than pinning one of those fake flash hiders. I'm picturing it pinned to a 13.7" - 14.5" barrel with a handguard coming up to or even just over it.

Does it really do nothing? Obviously, it doesn't affect barrel rise or felt recoil. However, just because it doesn't reduce flash or sound, doesn't mean that it doesn't reduce the shooter's perception of both. My assumption is that it makes it very bright and loud down range, but perhaps a little less so behind the rifle.

I wouldn't get it personally but being that looks is everything to some, at least it serves a purpose by directing the flash and noise away from you.

I understand the appeal of these flash "cans" and 10/30 magazines but I think people are robbing themselves of functionality when they use them.

I'm curious though if these can things truly have no reduction of muzzle flash. They seem similar to the old style conical flash hiders you would see on Bren guns and such.

Couldn't hurt for those that use rifles indoors for self defense. Directing the noise away from you is a good thing.

For whatever it's worth, reviews online say that they do work. I take that with a grain of salt being that they are from websites that sell them.

It weighs 3.2 oz. Chopping off 2" of 0.750" OD .223/5.56 barrel saves more than that (roughly 3.65oz for stainless by my calc.)

I understand the appeal of these flash "cans" and 10/30 magazines but I think people are robbing themselves of functionality when they use them.

I say to each his own. We customize lots of things for appearance only that have no real function. But in regards to your comment about the Magazine's, there is definitely an actual benefit to using some of the 10/ 30 magazines.

When practicing efficient magazine changes from a magazine holder on your belt or on a chest rig, you cannot efficiently remove a 10-round magazine out of one of the pouches. But a full-sized, reduced capacity magazine works great.

I do have a small one on my .223 pistol upper. It works, sound and flash are definitely directed downrange, but at only 7.5", it's not like it's that far from you either way. I can say that it is a significant difference from my 7.62x39 pistol with a brake on it. That thing rattles your teeth. Bad.

I think the becoming part of the barrel only applies to length as per the ATF.

If you fix a flash suppressor or silencer onto a barrel, you still have that device on there.

So I believe making holes in the can is different then making holes onto a barrel.
