Anyone have hands on experience with this pistola? Someone close to me is thinking of getting one. I've never even seen one, but FN has a pretty good rep, generally.

Yes, I have an FNS 9mm. Happy with it because my hands are large and grip works for me. It’s great at the range. The down side is that it’s too big in my opinion to carry concealed.

I fondled one at my local shop a few years back, seemed like a decent little carry gun. Only thing I didn’t care for was the aggressive grip texture, no range time with one but seems comparable to most polymer striker fired compacts. Only reason I didn’t pick it up was a nice used beretta 92 caught my attention. FN’s reputation is solid so I don’t think it’s a bad option.

I went thru 4 mags in one owned by a buddy of my FiL's last time I was in MI and second the comments about the grips.
Accuracy- good to very good (coming from me I guess that means it's extremely accurate). Well balanced. Controls are well placed. I liked the (stock) trigger.
Didn't like the grip texture one bit.
I have an Fnx9 and love it.
It's a good solid pistol.
The army's MHS trials produced some really nice options.
The way I look at it is that there were so many good quality options created by the competition that the real winner is the consumer. We have many quality choices of guns that are all comparable. It just comes down to how it feels for your hand, ergonomics, personal preference etc.. and if you can find one in stock...
The original 509 is roughly the same size as a glock45. 17 size grip 19 size slide.
I think there are full-size and compact versions now.

They have an entire line Up now. I think they have the 503 same gun just smaller. They are interesting pistols and they have an optics ready version for under $800 if I remember correctly.

The FN 509, HK VP9 and the Glock 26
I buddy picked up a FN 509 and I had a chance to shoot it. I also shot another guys VP9 and my G26. Please dont that is as any type comparison or a which ones better thing, just sharing my experience at the range tonight. Before I start I must say I never shot a 509 before tonight and the VP9...
