FNX 9 or S&W M&P 2.0

I'm on the fence between these two. I can get a used FN FNX9 for $400 plus $25 transfer plus tax so about $460. These go for $599 new. Or I could get a new S&W M&P 9 2.0 5" barrel in fde for $409 plus transfer and no tax but I'd have to forego the magazines as it comes with 17 rounders. Would probably and up being just about $460 after getting ten round mags. I have about an equal amount of striker and DA/SA pistols so no worries there. I've held and like both of these guns but can't decide which. Definitely can't get both. What would you guys recommend?

I haven't played with the FNX, but I have an M&P 2.0 and like it a lot.

The FN feels kinda blocky in the hand to me and larger than what would seem necessary. Never shot one though. The M&Ps on the other hand feel extremely nice in the hand but the triggers are not great. I won't upgrade the trigger of my Gen 5 Glock but I would on the M&P.
I would favor the S&W for its ubiquity of spare parts and large aftermarket which is surpassed only by Glock.

I looked at the FNC-9 and decided against it because I couldn’t hit the mag release without seriously adjusting my grip. The guy said buy an extended mag release button. I said let me think about it and searched the web for one. I couldn’t find one. There are not many after market parts for the FNC-9 when I looked. Now this is when they were fairly new on the market but something to consider. Not sure if the FNX would be the same or not.

The FNX's are good guns just the same as the M&Ps are. Hold both and see which one fits your hand better.

IMO the M&P is more comfortable to hold and shoot.

I agree that the M&P had a more comfortable grip but I don't have an FN yet. That being said, the 5" M&P is a great looking gun and the 2.0 trigger isn't bad. The FNX trigger is very good. I'm leaving toward the FNX cuz that's a good price and the Smith will likely be able to be found for that price again.

Yeah, the M&Ps are common as air. Should always be able to find one at a good price. You can get the "1.0"s for absolute peanuts now.

Never held the FNX9 so I can’t directly compare. I have an M&P 9 1.0 with an Apex trigger that is great. The 2.0 has a better trigger out of the box.

What’s intended primary use? Range gun? EDC? What about controls? Do you prefer an external/thumb safety or decocker or straight up single action? If they’re equal in your eyes maybe controls will sway you one way or other.

Never shot the FN but the M&P is sweat. I dont like the compact but the full sized is real nice.
