FNX9 rollercoaster

Just picked up my first FN, specifically the FNX9. It was used, meaning pre-owned but looked like it was never fired. Got it for $380. I was stoked. Guy I got it from says he got it from a collector who just, well, collects. Took it to the range and it would fire one round, eject it, then fail to load the next. Did this EVERY TIME. I've never had ANY gun fail at this rate. I was pissed. I thought FN'S were reliable? I've since figured out what was wrong with it, but what do you think the issue may have been? Kinda surprised me, but it made sense once I figured it out.
Here's the gun in any case. It's a great shooter. Only thing I don't like is that the safety gets in the way of a proper grip. Surprising.

I have an FNX9 never had an issue. About 200 rounds expended. Mine was purchased new.

That's what I was expecting. Also why I was so disappointed. Thought he sold me a bum gun.

So the first time I ran it, I used 115gr stuff and 100% of the time it wouldn't feed the next round. The next time I took it out, I used 147 grain rounds. Reliability went from 0% to about 50%. That was promising but still buy no means acceptable. I did have a string of ten rounds without a hiccup. It's when I fired at a faster pace cuz I was getting pissed about it still misfeeding. Wondered why, then I put a death grip on it and there were no more misfeeds at all.

So a bit of limp wrist AND it still has to break in cuz that recoil spring is FIRM!

i going with a weak recoil spring .. .. is the missfeed a stove pipe kinda .. ..

my friend has a canix race gun ( not oem springs ) and if shot relaxed arms / grip it stove pipes ,.. stiff arm and death grip .. runs like a champ ..

It would eject the spent case fine, but the next round would get stuck on The feed ramp. The recoil spring is definitely not weak. It needs to soften up a bit if anything. The limp wristing isn't true limp wristing. I have a pin in my left index finger from an injury this summer so my grip is compromised a bit. But I didn't have an issue with ANY of the other guns I've fired since the injury so I didn't suspect that was it. So once I'm back to 100% hopefully the problem will go away without the death grip. Pin gets taken out Monday.

Took the gun back to the range and it cycles the 147 grain stuff no problem. 115 grain gotta put a death grip on it. Finger still isn't 100% so that's probably a lot of the problem. Love this gun tho. Excellent grip, great sights, super flat shooting, and holy accurate. Firing a series of quick rounds is very easy and gun just goes right back on target.
