Forming a Church Safety Team

This is a guest post from my friend Ron Borsch, a retired police officer and well known law enforcement trainer. He has been doing some consulting in the field of church safety and has come up with some great ideas about forming a church security team. Check out his article and all the additional references he provides.

Checking our Stopwatch of Death© database back to 1975, we find that church murders have been increasing with alarming frequency. Regrettably, ignoring the problem is only trolling for a tragedy. It is perfectly normal for us to not want to think about violence, much less murder, or mass murder in church. Today, however, safe havens do not occur naturally, they require our personal attention, intention, planning, and effort. A Volunteer Safety Team (VST) is certainly a practical consideration.

The actual facts show that countries with less religion, like Japan, tend to be better off, so it will be interesting to see how your facts contrast that.

The actual facts show that countries with less religion, like Japan, tend to be better off, so it will be interesting to see how your faces contrast that.

And I don't even agree with all in that article, but to say that "the lessening of religion in America (untrue) is causing bad acts in this world!" is demonstrably false.

As for the loss of religion here in the U.S., are you freakin kidding me? Get your head out of your ass and you can plainly see the evidence, no proof needed! Guess you think the promotion by the State of alternative lifestyle is OK? How about the State supporting gambling, that is not a moral issue? They put their get out of jail free card as a disclaimer that to do it responsibly and if you need help dial this # while reaping Billions from the susceptibility of those same people to comfort their addictive compulsive behavior! You're out of your league if you want to argue that the contemporary society as it exists today in the U.S. is not morally inept! Television itself is another example, I don't watch much, but every time I turn it on there are plenty of examples and encouragement!

And yes indeed, MORAL concept is based upon religion, want to talk about our very own constitution and the effects of religion upon it, morality? Think the concept of living freely from monarchy is not morally based? And why do you think the founders specifically wrote in a separation of church and state! Consider how easily things would change if those emotion morality issues were allowed to bear fruit within our Gov't! Hmmmmm... Couple all this with the steadily dwindling numbers of those practicing religion here in the U.S. and the association is verifiable!

And back to Japan being better off than us....?

That link is laughable. It's by a lawyer who's selling a book. Look at this gem:

"Within the United States, we see the same pattern. Citing census data, he writes: "And within America, the states with the highest murder rates tend to be the highly religious, such as Louisiana and Alabama, but the states with the lowest murder rates tend to be the among the least religious in the country, such as Vermont and Oregon.""

Look at the demographics of those states.

He also left out the higher suicide rate among atheists

I'm not saying religion automatically = better person. Many don't practice what they preach. I'm still waiting to hear how Japan is better off than we are (due to lack of religion).

You have a teaching moment for the pro NY SAFE'ers in the congregation. You can explain the differences between handguns and long guns. I the case of this latest church shooting, if a congregant had a handgun on him, going into a gun fight against an AR-15 is not the best idea in the world.
Then explain that taking a life is not something that comes easy and is a life altering experience. Not doing anything in a situation like than because of a stupid Gun Free sign would be just as sickening because you are watching more people will be slaughtered out of ignorance and some liberal agenda.

My wife has gotten used to me in all public situations. She will pick the chair in a restaurant so that my chair is facing the door or the cash register. IN Church, we always sit near the back pew on the right side near the windows, with my gun in my belt. It is usually in front of the "reserved for parents with small children" but we don't care. With 14 grandkids and one in the oven, it ain't no big thang.

C'mon, I bet you can whip up a pic of the pope or some other religious leader skydiving with a parachute too.

Nothing says I trust God like jumping out of a perfectly good airplane at 10,000 feet with a parachute on my back.

A more valid argument would be the information world. We are actually much better off than the times of old, but that doesn't sell papers.

I'm sure old John had a different definition of 'religious' but as there has been a sharp decline in both of those categories no matter how defined the government has stepped in to take up the slack just as according to the plan laid out and even touted openly by Stalin and Krushchev. Death from within, I guess Mr. Adams was somewhat prophetic.
