Still, a strange story.
A caretaker might have told him that the NYS marked trail he was on, is now HIS, and simply shot him/buried him.
I was hunting, just off a trail north of North Lake....... I was waiting for a buck to stroll by.........I was well camoflaged.......after 2 hours or so, two hunters walked by, totally oblivious to my presence, just off the trail.............like VC walking by LRRPs in Vietnam.....
I said nothing, as more than likely they would have "sound shot" at me.....like most hunters do. I waited a few minutes and left the spot, leaving a partially eaten sandwich, right in the middle of the trail, for their return.
I had a copy of an old quadrangle map that my grandfather used back in 1914 or so, to hunt the same area with his 38-55; trail was still there, but was not shown on present day quadrangle maps....
A compass and map reading skills are still handy today. Trail always looks different on the return....

That’s even harder to believe than the first post in this thread. Yes, he shot her, and yes, she died. Sad. But he wasn’t in a typical hunting area, and it was after dark. Hardly qualifies as “many” for your giant spreadsheet of “sound shoot” statistics.

I did not realize it was PRE BOW SEASSON, for deer jacker bow hunters,................I was running along when suddenly a guy shouted "what the fuck ,I almost shot you." he was off the trail with a bow...
He left, very shaken up as I told him others were coming behind me, though I was almost a bit dead and shaken up too.
Another guy came dragging a deer out from our farm one Sat am........ THROUGH OUR BARNYARD......and said the owners aid it was ok down at the local bar....claimed it was an arrow but clearly it had two shotgun slug holes in the side--gutshot.He stashed the shotgun in the brush and probalby came back for it that night.
Jacking, liars, shootings, and other idiotic behavior, usually also include tresspassing most of the time. "I thought it was public land", standing next to a posted sign.
I live near the borderline between the North and South.............so naturally shooiting on the south begins 2 months eariler than the actual North tier state date..."I thought it was the north!!

1. My great uncles land was there's and I'm trespassing on their property
2. Had another hunter try to kick a family friend off of his OWN land during deer season.
3. Had people try to tell me I can't shoot on state land
4. Had other hunters try to stop me like police ve because the deer my brother shot was NEAR their land. It was "their" deer.
It's one of the reasons I'm not that interested in gun deer season. Besides dip shits shooting people all the time. If I were to go out hunting in NY I'd take a mini-14 or .308 semi auto to cover self defense and hunting.
It's one of the reasons I prefer small game season. There's no "glory" in it, but they sure taste just as good.
In pa I'd probably just carry my handgun too.

But he didn’t just hear a rustling in the puckerbrush a squeeze off his blaster. He saw a dim shape after dusk, aimed at it, and fired. Next.
Story #2 was another bad choice to back up your lunacy. From another article on the same guy: “Sheriff Christopher said Ring was shot multiple times at close range. “Knowing Mr. Ring’s background, unless it was somebody that he knew, I don’t think he would’ve let them get that close," Christopher said. "It was very gruesome...this was very cold-blooded.”

The very concept is alien.
If "most" hunters you know do this, I would run, not walk, away from them, and the area they hunt in.
You are describing one of the most egregious violations of the rules of firearm safety imaginable.
You'd be safer hunting with a bunch of guys who are falling down drunk than "hunters" who "sound shoot".
How the fuck would you even attempt proper shot placement ? How many shots do you even need to take at "the sound" before you get a kill ?
