Winchester, PPU, S&B and Hornady now load and sell ammo specifically for the M1 Garand.
Good news if you do not handload. Apparently so many CMP Garands are now out there, it is a financially viable solution for the ammo companies.
With the end of surplus M2 LC and HXP fodder, even the CMP is selling Hornady.
The whole deal is the powder's burn rate used, and in their ads they all speak about the op rod bending with commercial hunting ammo.
It is not an internet myth, as hard, continued use of commercial will eventually batter the gun's parts, unless you use a Schuster, or equivalent gas plug, to shoot Rem CoreLockt type ammo.... a cheap $35 dollar solution.
I have a few Schuster plugs, and do shoot RCL.
Old reliable publications, such as Hatcher Book of the Garand, and Khunhausens US 30 cal Service Rifles shop manual encourage only use of M2 spec ammo.
Anyway, that the ammo is available is good news. It is at least $1.25 a round, however.
Cheaper than the surplus HXP that is at least $2.00 a round.
