Was in Ohio over the weekend and 87 octane is 2.55 a gallon. 45 cents less than here. I assume that 45 cents are State taxes because the fed tax should be all the same. How many million of gallons a day are pumped throughout the State? And are roads outside NY $hitty are....uh...well....$hitty

Also the lack of pipelines means that fuel, natural gas ect must all be transported via tanker which is obviously more costly.

In Ohio the diesel was 3.19 a gallon.....$3.18 here local......the trucker's are really getting hosed.

But when you see the prices vary so starkly in areas that are fairly close you have to wonder what is going on.

for example:
Regular gas in Henrietta is approx. $2.65/gal
Regular gas in Brockport is approx. $2.87/gal

And EVERY station in Brockport has the same price.

so you're telling me it costs 22c per gallon more to bring the gas to Brockport vs. Henrietta, which is only 20 minutes away?

Greece has gas at around $2.67/gal. Greece is about the same distance from Henrietta as Brockport is.


I think there is more at work here than shipping costs.

Rez gas comes from Canada or American Refining group in Bradford PA. For the most part. The gas is fine but sometimes they do some shady shit after delivery.
Not all but a few have been known to add stuff. They all have premium but some don't take delivery of premium.

I won't elaborate but been doing this long enough to know what goes on. I will buy Rez gas but only at a couple places.

It's a monkey see monkey do, if one station sells it $.05 cheaper he will be out and may not be able to get a delivery for a couple days. No gas nobody to buy a $2.40 bottle of water.

The delivery of gas is very efficient from input to pipelines to loading on trucks and delivery to stations.
Trucking it is very competitive in this area, everyone is bidding for the work every couple years, keeps the price for that in check.

I remember when it was 27.9 a gallon for premium. Two stations got into a gas war and regular went down to 17.9. Those were the good old days. You could fill your tank for $5.00 and get the oil checked and the windshield cleaned.

In 1966 when I started driving the price of gas was 27.9 per gallon of premium. I had a 1962 Austin Healy 3000 and could fill the tank up for less than $4.00. Great times.

I used to buy bulk fuel for a diesel fleet I dont remember the prices but I saw the break down of the price per gallon and the taxes involved. And there was a significant tax on fuel. I want to say 25 to 30 percent but sont quote me I don't remember the details to was close to 20 years ago. Dann has it been that long. Fuck.

NY and each specific county adds on a significant amount of tax. That's the single biggest difference in state to state costs.

Add in higher labor, production, distribution, variable and fixed costs and that's makes up the rest of the difference.

I remember when about 20yrs ago, diesel was 90 some cents a gal. Reg unleaded hovered at $1.25ish.
I miss the un-manipulated costs of fuel oil. Oil had always been first. In fact gasoline used to be a waste product from refining crude. This discarded in the ground until they figured out how to harness it's power by development of the gas engine. Diesels were always first.
