We're all focused on the Puppet, not the puppeteer: One can decide to run for higher political Office (Legislature, Congress, etc.) on their own, but without deep pockets or blessing from the Party Chair, they stand no chance of election. The "Party" be they Republican or Democrat has leadership and its own committee that decides WHO they will endorse and run for the respected seat, the same that got them elected are either going to support or reject their next election and will dictate the Platform they're running on. We're being distracted by the dubious credentials of Santos, but he was selected by a Committee, trotted out by the same for all the Republicans of that District to support...Why? Who benefits? and as part of the package, other Party Representatives are encouraged to support said candidate because they are of the same Party.
The up-side is one more Republican displacing a Democrat for control of the House, the down side is the DNC will chew on this like a starving dog.
