Defense Distributed makes the Ghost Gunner CNC mill for milling 80% AR15 and AR308 lowers into full functioning, unserialized and unregistered firearms. They have just released the 1911 and Glock. Soon to come will be the Sig Sauer, CZ, and the AR9.

Given the current situation who knows how long before you will not be able to buy/make/own firearms. Especially in NYS. The demand for the Ghost Gunner mill is so high that there is a 2+ month waiting list and the used market has them for nearly the price of brand new.

Being ambidextrous, I wonder if it will ever advance to the point that you could ever make a true left handed mirror image firearm, including the slide obviously. Like the Randall left handed 1911.

Oh, 1911... I was intrigued by the Polymer 80's but would much much prefer a 1911 pattern. If I didn't suck with a manual milling machine I'd get one just to give it a go (at my friend's machine shop in NH).

That is the point of the Ghost Gunner. Even if you suck with a manual mill the Ghost Gunner will do it for you automatically. Mount the 80% receiver, walk away, and two hours later you have a perfectly functioning part.

I would absolutely love the CNC machine, but it doesn't seem like the economies of scale are there for an individual who wants to build one or two lowers. Don't get me wrong, this is very far up the ladder of Tools I NEED! Just can't financially justify it...yet.

It would be cool for a number of us to chip in on one. Ten people say at about a hundred bucks and keep it in a central location. Maybe a storage unit or something with a power outlet.

I think we discussed something like that on this forum or the last one. The debate was if this was legal or not with the ATF ruling on build parties. I can't remember if we ever came to a consensus.

If I was done with my garage, I'd house it, keep it cozy, and feed it electricity. I'm not quite centrally located east/west, though I am very close to freedom aka the PA border (which makes it so much more irritating that I have to deal with NY's BS).

As to the legality, if something were drawn up where each contributor had X percent ownership of the device, and only one owner used it at a time.... hmm.

In the vein of this particular discussion, wondering if multiple users using one GG CNC to each complete machining their respective projects would be construed as either dealing in or manufacturing firearms, by the person who is housing said CNC, thus requiring a FFL and NYSP form PPB-6 (the "extra licensing" bit).

Hmmm. I am not sure. I thought that as long as you do not set out to sell or distribute the lowers you are not 'manufacturing'.

The other way I heard is 1st member pays $1000, sells to 2nd member for $900. Then 2nd member sells to 3rd member for $800. Then 3rd member sells to 4th member for $700. And so on. Then final sale is on open market and proceeds split evenly among members.

I’m still curious as to the feasibility of splitting ownership of the CNC itself. Is there any reason that the tools couldn’t be owned jointly by percentage? That way each party could complete their machining on their machine, for their own use, yadda yadda.

Build parties are expressly prohibited by the ATF.

Selling from one to the next would probably be the best method.

The absolute best method is keep it to yourself and dont post on the internet, text messages, facebook, twitter etc etc

I think the ideal would be to build something well done and obviously legal that one can add to the permit.
If anyone has time why not a 0% jig saw lower? IMO is a waste when the gun shop has good ones and might be even cheaper to buy one made than getting into complex projects.
