Glock 19 Gen5 Production

I would like to trade my Glock 19 Gen4 for a Glock 19 Gen5.
I don't like the finger grips on the Glock 19 Gen4 .
I have big fingers that do not fit properly in the grip causing my middle finger
to get pushed up in to the underside of the trigger guard causing Glock knuckle.
I did not want to undercut the trigger guard in case I wanted to sell it in the future.
I am right handed and sometimes shoot left handed with two hands and the
Glock 19 Gen5 has an ambidextrous mag release making it easier for a mag exchange.
My only concern is Glock going back to a 2 pin frame from a 3 pin frame.
How long will I have to wait for all the first run of guns to be sold and for it to prove itself.
Am I crazy? I never buy or lease the first year of a new car model.
I always wait until the next year for the manufacturer to work out all the bugs.
Why should Glock be any different ?

This gun has actually been in circulation for a while as the gun that was produced for the FBI. There were a couple of other police departments that started issuing them, and they've already wrung out several problems.

I would wait a little while, but I don't think it'll be necessary to wait long.

I would wait a little while, but I don't think it'll be necessary to wait long.

Didn't all those G17M's fall apart and then get recalled?

As a former Glock fanboy (now I'm good with just a tricked out G19 or 17) the Gen 5s are legit a joke,
All they did was take a Gem 2 rebrand it and give it an ambi slide release and magwell (which honestly sounds good on paper but I wonder if it will hinder aftermarket magwells and that would be stupid)

You may want to wait, Glock has a bad track record. Let the bugs get worked out first.

If the finger groves are a problem, it is your carry piece and you don't plan on selling it, I would just have them removed. It's cheaper, looks better, and your existing gun is already reliable. They can fix the grip angle to more of a 1911 type grip if you like too.

Honestly, no finger grooves will make some happy and the more options the consumer has to choose from the better off Glock is. Be it Gen 3, 4, or 5, if you like and want a Glock, there is something for just about everyone. If not....fire up the belt sander and get to work.

For me....finger grooves for the win.

It seems that whenever Glock markets a new Generation, there is a vocal component of its customer base bitching about something.

I'm happy with my Gen 4's, not enough changes that will effect me to warrant getting a Gen 5. Plus the finger grooves don't bother me at all.

Had my hands on a 17 and 19, they seemed decent to me.

After all, they're not custom 1911's. No worse than any 4th Gen I've purchased although the finish wasn't as dark blackish as the previous Generations.

If you see another in person can you see if the frame fits the slide properly and the mag release cutouts? It's not a custom 1911 but I have seen hi points finished better than the guns in the video. Poor QC is not acceptable on a 500-600 gun, even if it works. Did you see the rear sight on the video example?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I also watched Mrgunsnand video.
His opinion differed.
Unfortunately it 's not just Glock.
There is very little quality control in many products.
I have a Sig Sauer P320.
Did you see how the recoil spring sits in the muzzle of the gun, Terribly !

I've seen 3, 2 17's and a 19. What I noticed was no slide/frame fit problems but there were some sharp edges on the mag release button itself and the magazine cutout on the front strap of the frame.

The finish wasn't as "deep" or "dark black" as the previous versions and it seemed to collect fingerprints rather easily.

All in all what I'd expected....certainly not "perfection" but not an Hi-Point either.

For what its worth, some of the same criticisms were levied at the Gen 4, especially how it ejected fired shell casings into your forehead, the lack of reliability in the new dual spring recoil system and some even labeled the replaceable back strap system as unnecessary.

I've bought Gen 3's that when I got home with simple finger pressure the rear sight would fall out of the dovetail. Mattered not...they were going to be replaced anyway. In comparison, I've never bought an entry level 1911 that didn't need 'smithing before it would be reliable enough to shoot it in a match or carry it in a holster so I'm used to having to "correct" poor factory QC anyway.

Not certain if I'll buy one of the 1st ones out. Most likely to wait 6 months and pick-up a G19 for the hell of it. I like the finger grooves but it would be cool to have one without just to have one.

Anyways Glocks had MANY problems (Boatload) in the past, I am seeing an issue with my SIG now and I am not happy but will get it straighten out. I would let it take it's course and give it some time it may or may not turn into a great gun.

Stanley, Craftsman, and HE are made in the same factory.

His Harbor Freight comparison was really poor. Harbor Freight tools work just fine. Yes, people have problems with some of their stuff, but as for band tools, I've never seen someone break, nor have I ever broken one.

I don't use the slide stop, I misunderstood.
When I first heard about the Gen5 I thought they meant an ambi mag release.
That I would of liked.

I can hurt myself on a Harbor Freight tool just as easily as I can on a Snap-On tool.

Saying you hurt yourself on a Snap-On tool just sounds cooler, which is why I have a Snap-On tool box full of overpriced tools in my shop.

Snap-On tool injuries impress the chicks...or so I'm told.
