Yes your comparing some beat cop who may only ever shoot once a year to qualify vs someone who goes around the country training all different levels of police and military and civilians, he himself is shooting in these classes and even giving people his guns to shoot adding to their round count.
One doesnt have to personally shoot the rounds for them to count in the guns round count.

HS2000 er I mean XD are the same tier level as Taurus and SCCY, they are not duty/defense grade guns like the import company Springfield Armory Inc. advertises them.

Both companies use inferior quality products, it's not a quality control problem, they are controlling their quality just fine.
Difference is that HS and Taurus and SCCY and other sub par offerings use inferior materials and have a much lower (much much) tolerance for what is "good" or not before they send it out.
Hence the HS guns are not in the same catagory as similarly priced offerings or those slightly more expensive ie, glock, sig, fn, hk, cz, smith & wesson

I have two Sigs. A 516 Patrol rifle and a 320C. I bought the 320C because I was looking for an EDC that was semi auto, striker fired, and capable of accepting an accessory. I tried the G19, the G19X, G17, M&P, H&K, I tried every variety the store had for rental. I settled on the 320C for one reason: it felt the best. I shot it the best, I placed rounds where I wanted them and it felt like it was made for me. I ended up with two Sigs because of how they felt and what my specs were. I have ~3000 rounds through the 516 with not a single issue running a variety of ammo. My 320C has ~1000 rounds with not a single issue either. My gf picked up a 365 for the same reasons that I got my 320. Now we have 3 Sigs in the house for no other reason than they fit the bill and they felt the best. I think everyone buying an EDC should consider this.
The reason that Glock has become the benchmark is simply due to Gaston's design having been on the market longer than any other pistol of its type combined with Glocks being in widespread use in military, law enforcement and civilian quarters the world over, with all the the refinement that entails. The bugs have all been ironed out by now. The first iteration of the Glock had some significant issues with bonafide unintentional discharges, issues that weren't completely solved until the the gen 3s.
As it stands now, with all the real world testing Glocks are just a very well known quantity, people know what to expect when they see/hold one.
Now the polymer framed, striker fired pistol as a whole has become a well know quantity in itself, manufacturers have a good understanding of what it takes to make a successful pistol design of its type. Few however have the real world credentials that a Glock has but there are a few that come within the same ballpark. Specifically S&W's M&P pistols which are excellent and have a long and largely postive track record behind them, though not a spotless one (neither is Glock's). In my personal experience I can vouch for the reliability and quality of Walther's PPQ which also has a pretty long lineage behind it being a development of the P99.
With well over 6,000 rounds through the Walther I have had precisely one stoppage in all that time, I have something more than 3,000 rounds through my Glock 19, with absolutely no stoppages so far.
I am not sure how many rounds I have through my M&P Shield, I don't shoot it as often as I ought to, but of the rounds I do have through it (I acquired it around the same time as the PPQ) It too has given me sterling service and can very often be found on my hip as my carry gun, particularly in the warmer months. There is a glut of of polymer/stiker guns on the market now, most of which I expect will prove to be as reliable and robust as Glock, but none yet have as long a track record and some have already shown themselves to be turds, like Remington's RP9. Anyone even remember that one?
To me, the main reason to choose Glock over its many, many competitors, some of whom evem offer better features, is it's sheer ubiquity. Parts are abundant, available and inexpensive, likewise magazines are plentiful and cheap. In fact factory Glock magazines typically go for half of most other competing pistol's magazines. The Glock also has the fewest amount of parts of any pistol of its type and it is possible to completely dissemble, maintain, repair or replace any given part down to the smaleest detail at the hobbyist level.
Glock is often said to be the AK of pistols but I say Glock is the AR15 of pistols in the complete serviceability of the design and the seemingly infinite array of aftermarket parts available.
In fact one of the reasons I got a Glock 19 to supplement (and has now supplanted) the PPQ was due to my frustration with the limited selection of sights and holsters for the Walther.
If a company makes holsters, they have one for Glocks, if a company makes sights they have a model for Glocks. Everyone that makes stuff for pistols, makes something for Glocks. In other words the Glock pistol excels in logistics. Then again this kind of universal availability of stuff is nearly matched by the M&Ps and the SIG P320 aftermarket is also extremely robust so Glock dosen't completely dominate in terms of logistics either.
So yeah, Glock is the benchmark but that doesn't mean there isn't anything better either.

Interesting side note on that: both manufacturers developed the extended capacity magazines for their full auto pistol models the Glock 18 and Beretta 93R. In my experience, owning a gen 4 19,23, and 21, I’ve only ever had one failure to feed in the 19 and it was magazine related. Don’t know my round counts on each but they are all in the thousand-two thousand range. Carry and qualify with the 21

As for reliability, I think many are their equals or have surpassed them. It's just a well known name at this point that is a benchmark. They are synonymous with striker fired pistols. Like say ar-15 is synonymous with msr.
Many many of the guys I know prefer the m and p.

BUL does a great job with these frames. They have been making them for a while and they know what they are doing. It's too bad this youtuber didn't do a better job reviewing it. Has an air of slight incompetence. They are a better gun than most people will give them credit for, and a bargain in the double stack (2011-ish) market.

I think a huge reason why glock continues to be the "gold standard" is in large part because price. Of course it's always nice getting great quality for a relatively low price but we're also talking about carry guns here. For all we know the BUL or various other pistols could be better if not way better in some aspects. But in the rare instance that you actually have to use your gun in self defense what would you feel better handing over to the police? A 4-$500 gun or a 1-$1500 dollar gun? Evidence gets lost, evidence gets accidentally destroyed, court cases can take years etc.
Yes, very good point and a big reason I finally got over my anti polymer gun bias. Glocks, M&Ps, P320s what have you, the typical poly striker gun is primarily a tool and is thus easily replicable. Even if Glock isn't the cheapest of its type, and it isn't, its ubiquity means it would be very easy to replace, any shop that sells pistols will be selling Glocks.

If I had to use my gun for self defense I would want the gun I shoot the best with. I could care less about it being taken for evidence and maybe lost. Many people disagree with my theory but f the money carry what you shoot best. Buy once cry once. And maybe twice if you ever have to use it but the chances of that are so slim it’s not even worth worrying about in my opinion.
About 8 months ago I put away my Kimber ultra carry II and started carrying a gun that I made. I know what parts went into it and I know what tolerances everything is running.
