Going to visit TN

I'm going to visit Tennessee and the great smoky mountains next month. I'm pretty excited so I'm trying to plan ahead and learn about the state.

I just went to their state website
Reciprocity

And found the following-

1. Tennessee now recognizes a facially valid handgun permit, firearms permit, weapons permit, or a license issued by another state according to its terms, and will, therefore, authorize the holder of such out-of-state permit or license to carry a handgun only in the state of Tennessee.
2. The person must be in possession of the permit or license at all times such person carries a handgun in Tennessee.

So looks like NY license is good to go.

Under LEOSA, I am covered. To a point. Looks like there are tons of places that firearms are not allowed unless on duty. Not too bothered, as aggravating as it is, I will begrudgingly leave the gun at the rental house. I think

so in a NY PP it contains the MAX content and is to restrictive in TN LOL ..

Nice. I was in that area before. On our way to the outer Banks we picked a random place to stop for a bit and let the kids run around and burn off some energy. We stopped at I think it was called capacon state park for an hour or 2. It looked nice from what I saw.

The only negative I've seen so far about TN laws is that it seems their no gun signs actually matter in law.

My GF and I visited the Gaitliburg/Pigeon Forge area the fall before they had that huge wild fire. The area is beautiful, a lot like the Catskills (same mountain chain really). Gaitlinburg however, was super touristy. Like Lake George Village on steroids.

Yep, i was disappointed with the Pigeon Forge area. But Tennessee is beautiful. That'll be my go-to spot if I ever leave this God forsaken state.

So if you have time, even though its touristy , you have to visit gatlenburg and pigeon forge for a day, Ski lift up the mountain, sit and enjoy a real mountain band while sipping whiskey, take a sled ride down the side of a mountain and then stop at the largest knife store in the united state , want to have more fun schedule your trip during the great garage sale and go junkin, I found some crazy cheap army surplus stuff.Go visit some amish furniture builders and the amish leatherwoods and farms There is more to tennises then Nashville

Hopefully you had a chance to visit Bud's gun shop and Smokey Mountain Knife Works while you were in the area. I tend to avoid Gatlingburg/PF unless it's the off season, after Labor Day it'll quiet down a bit, but then it picks back up towards Christmas. I've been watching the weather at our other home on the Cumberland Plateau, and it's been cooler there than here in the Adirondacks.

Yeah, it's adjacent to Smokey Mountain Knife Works. There's a Lodge cast iron outlet store there too, all in the same general vicinity, easy walking distance between them all.

If I hadn’t divorced my ex wife, we’d have been living in TN a few months ago.

In 2014, we had taken our second trip out there scouting in the Franklin area for homes. I was just about to start researching police departments when we started having issues. We knew I had about 5 years to go with the military buyback coming, so we figured it was time to start researching and planning heavily. Our goal was to buy a house in the summer 2018, sell mine here and I would live with family until I could have retired in the early part of this year.

Needless to say, all that changed pretty majorly. Lol

That's too bad AG, I know the Cumberland County Sheriff's office is going to be hiring three new deputies in the near future, the first new additions to their force in 20 years, so there are decent LEO job openings. I ran into a retired NYPD officer last month in Crossville, he was extremely happy with his move. His only complaint was the nearest good NY style pizza place was 20 miles away.

I was hoping to get the job I have now out of our Chattanooga/Atlanta region but I got our mid-Atlantic region instead. Otherwise, I'd be there already. According to the Office of Rumor Control though, we may have a large acquisition coming up so that would bring more possibilities.

When I was driving OTR, every chance I got to take a load to TN, I'd go. Love the state, love the people.

Two years ago, the detective squad Sgt from my precinct retired and started somewhere in TN. I don’t know where though.

I didn't get his name, but he lived out on Long Island, and commuted each day into the city. He works for Geico now, so he wouldn't be too hard to find. He told me our car insurance will be much cheaper in TN, about half of what I'm paying in NY, but Geico doesn't offer the no pay windshield coverage in TN. I've found the roads to be much better in TN, except for Knoxville....no frost heaves like we get up here. Anyways, I met up with the fellow while loading up a trailer at Lowes, he saw our license plates and he asked if I was visiting on vacation or permanently escaping NY. Next month we'll see NY in our rearview mirror, but we'll still need to come up here occasionally as we sell our house.

We bought our home in Cumberland County, up on the Cumberland Plateau, about 20 miles from Cookeville. The nearest town is Crossville. The plateau weather is typically 5-10 degrees cooler than the surrounding area. There's lots of convenience stores, but no 7-11's. However, they have two Dairy Queens in Crossville, which sell their Misty slushes that are similar to Slurpees.

I used to pass through the Nickajack Reservoir area all the time on I-24. I'd love to do some boating and fishing there.

Heading to Panther Creek state park in October. Plan on checking out the area and population. Move in 1-2 years.

I was reading the Crossville Chronicle newspaper on-line and came across an interesting article. It seems there's a gun and knife show in Crossville this weekend. And there's a gun auction...the guns in the auction are firearms that were confiscated by local police agencies. Any profits from the gun auction are to be used by the local agencies for new equipment and training. It's good to see the guns are put back into circulation and not destroyed. However, I'd prefer to see the profits put towards a victim fund, but it's still better than most States.
