Going to be tough to sleep tonight,but at least I wont have any driving to do.Heading out in back of the house at 6AM,hoping for the 9 point thats hanging around but its all about enjoying the day.Good luck and hope you all get your buck before the rain comes which is suppose to start around 10 am.

Good luck to you too! I'm with ya on the sleep lol. I haven't been sleeping well anyway, toss and turn till 5am. If that's the case again I'm not going to bother trying to sleep. I'll get to my stand early.
Rain is supposed to be here just in time for sunrise in Niagara county, yeah, I'll be ready regardless.
Decided not to make the trek down to Allegheny county because of the weather forecast. I'll be hunting across the road from my house in the Hartland swamp, my dad gets to try out the blind I built for him and stay dry. This overlooks an oat and clover food plot I planted earlier this year.

So much for trying to sleep.Suppose to be the best date to hunt today for deer activity according to the solar moon forecast,no moon today and best time is noon-2pm.At least we should have that on our side,so might be worth the extra effort to sit all day.

It,s almost time to head out. Breakfast in half an hour then at 6.30 head out to the stand. My son has seen a mid size six point and a resl small spike where he will be set up, you just never know what might come by. It comes down to being in the right spot at the right time and don,t ef up. Good luck & stay dry.

A buck spooked the puppy in the back yard about 20 minutes ago. Big snort and stampeeded off. All the local shots are moving the deer close to the houses.
I haven't heard too many shots. First one was at 6:58, but only a handful since. I've only seen squirrels.

Went back out for the noon to 2pm supposed Lunar hot time seen nothing.All the bucks seen pre season (6 or 7) are still here,nobody shot in this whole valley/neighborhood.Going to be just like first day when they start moving,no body pushed anything seems like everyone just sat on a stump.Afraid to bump off there bucks to some elses land/neighbors,I will be out in morning if the weather aint to bad.

Got my first ever deer with a center fire rifle, spike, last minute of legal shooting time, pouring rain, approx. 130 yards, thought it was a doe, hah, went about a hundred yards. Hit him exactly where I was aiming, no bullet expansion, Sierra Pro-Hunters, never touched a bone, double lung, I guess the cavitation mushed them.! Gutted it in the dark, with pouring rain, lucky for me my son showed up to help out. He got a deer earlier using one of my 8mm reloads. great day!!! I'm whupped!

I skipped out on the morning yesterday because of rain. I don't have waterproof gear and my gun rusts if you look at it funny.
I got out yesterday afternoon and passed on a doe because I couldn't fully identify it (I've taken way too many button bucks and don't want another). While I was trying to see her better, a buck came from my left, following her. Unfortunately I got winded by him before I was able to get a shot.
Plan on heading out this morning, but with the wind, I'm also contemplating going back to bed because this hunt is going to be a busy.

Up until yesterday I had not taken a deer with a modern weapon in over forty years. The gun is an awesome hunting weapon, light rugged and easy to maneuver around with. It is certainly a different perspective when seeing the animal. With my home made archery and muzzleloading equipment, after getting in close enough and making the decision to go for it, you still have that doubt, after all the practice and hard work, can I make the shot. With my modern gun, of course I still had to make the shot but Technology bolstered my confidence that it would not be a problem. It was just as exciting, I enjoyed the hunt, and am now torn, I really want to use it again, and my muzzleloaders call out to me, but alas, I still have tags for both, A win win If I ever heard one.
Would I recommend this type of rifle for hunting even though it might scare the fudd's to death? Absolutely, I Never take counsel in another mans fears, They are the types that were probably scared when 03's and Mausers started showing up in the game fields. Especially you older guys, you can hunt all day with this thing and its no more burdensome than wearing an extra layer of cloths.

Got out for the day yesterday with a couple friends. My 2nd seaeson. Weather turned out better than expected and maybe saw an hour of light rain in the afternoon. Really didnt see anything. My buddy's dad shot one but lost the trail and rain made it worse.
