I agree with that personally...

I agree, with the caveat that all the prohibited persons should be incarcerated.

Once you decide they are safe enough to let back out into society, then they get their guns back too.

If you can't trust them not to shoot people, then you certainly can't trust them not to acquire some guns just because you asked them nicely not to.
