Google Drive weirdness

Can somone explain to me what is going on with the recent weirdness has been with Hoogke Drive? Does it not display my own content as it intended? Or was there a goof up in that one instance? Can someone point me to a superior video hosting option?

I'm sort not sure really if this should be a thread or a private conversation, because most people aren't going to have any what it was about.

So anyway, I couldn't personally actually replicate what other people were seeing in that instance, but I can hazard an educated guess. It didn't have anything to do with our site for one; probably best to get that out of the way first.

I assume it took a certain combination of what browser software someone was using along with being logged into google (maybe specifically into google drive, I'm not sure). What I believe was taking place is that the link you'd posted was broken in such a way that it referred to the user to.. like, "there's nothing here so go to home directory" (or something like that, I don't have google drive), and it displayed on the site as a MEDIA element (so sort of giving it it's own box of space). This translated into people seeing what looked like you'd posted a screenshot , but was in reality essentially a box containing a window into their own open google drive.
I know what I'm trying to say , but I'm not sure if that makes any sense.

Anyway, as for image hosting, I've been using Imgur ever since Photobucket crapped the bed.

Actually, that said, there is a function of our site that may have been involved.. sort of. At least in how it was displayed as a "box". Xenforo comes with some pre-coded.. lets just say 'stuff' for the purposes of this, the purpose of which is to turn certain kinds of BB code links into a MEDIA element. Basically it's intended to streamline the way the site is viewed by automatically turning media types into something which can be css styled to fit the page better at different sizes and such.

I discovered how this could work against us though a while back when someone was trying to post videos from the BBC website, which were among those things that Xenforo had specific code to handle. It got broken when BBC changed the way their site works from how Xenforo understood it to work. In that instance I had to remove the pre-coded Xenforo stuff to fix it. This may or may or may not be a similar thing (which I suspect because the link was converted to a framed MEDIA element , and Google Drive is also one of the things we have Xenforo pre-built handling code for). We'll have to test further to see if that's the case.

If none of that made any sense at all, no problem. We'll figure out if it needs tweaking, and if it does then I can easily tweak it..heh

So should I find another video host? Can photobucket, which I belive is no longer free, host video as well?

Oh, when I said Imgur I didn't realize it was video; I was assuming it was images.

Actually, you could help me figure it out just by trying to post a video from it here in this thread. I'm not sure if what you posted was actually openly viewable to the public, or if it was restricted to viewing only by you (as the logged in user of the google drive account). That could have something to do with it also.

I'm a bit limited here by not having any familiarity with google drive.

Flickr can be used to host, and share, videos as well as pictures.

You can also use Google drive, just set it as public. The reason why you saw your name there is because you were logged into Google in your browser.

I'm not sure, that's something that is done on Google Drive.

Never mind. That function is done per file or folder. That Galil vid (The video of badassitude) is set to public and always has been. I just use drive cause its free.
