The press has been gushing about the performance of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for weeks. The media often compares Cuomo’s “decisive” response to the coronavirus pandemic to the president, and guess who always wins?

Whether it’s good PR from the governor’s office or just the media worshipping a liberal who says mean things about Donald Trump, it hardly matters. What matters is results. And in that department, Andrew Cuomo has been a miserable failure — using several metrics.

And it’s not just the numbers. The panicky, sometimes hysterical New York governor began whining about the federal government (specifically the president) not doing anything to help the states with getting medical supplies. Back in March, he kept saying he needed 30-40,000 ventilators. And when Trump pointed out that was silly, he accused the president of being an unfeeling monster.

However it looks like they were wrong and therefore he overreacted. That is not terrible if he then unwound restrictions quickly. That he has not done.

I think his response and that of NYCs leaders due to political correctness and politics in general was to slow and behind the 8 ball. The most probable reason NYC got slammed was they ignored a threat (for the above reasons) until it bit them in the ass.
The poor use of available resources to protect the most vulnerable is the bigger fail.

Well said. I am no epidemiologist or economist or scientist of any kind, really, but I have been thinking in the back of mind there has to be some way to measure how many people DiBlowmeo essentially killed with his bullshit.

Unlike Trump, Cuomo's reaction actually *did* kill people.

What would NY's numbers look like if he had just sent known infected seniors to actual quarantine facilities instead of back to the nursing homes they came from ?

The right answer would have been to designate certain facilities or wards for covid, and only send covid patients there, not scatter them around all the facilities like seeds waiting to germinate.

Bonus for that plan is that the people operating those facilities could have had much stronger protection than "everyone". Real masks, proper decon procedures, etc... You can run a much tighter ship on a few floors than you can "everywhere".

Quarantine means separating the sick from the healthy, not locking sick and healthy people together so that the healthy get sick.

I would say they could have been used for other purposes but they are tents, actually the Javits Center would make a good place for positive nursing home pts to ride it out rather than be sent back to share space with other high risk folks.

The saw the problem and reacted promptly and aggressively despite criticism.
they also educated everyone and were pretty transparent why they did what they did and how
little they know about the virus and could not predict outcomes. A far as best practices,
that are, quick detection and immediate action, they did a good job w/o political BS .
