This is actually happening on a small level in several areas. During our research into what would be needed to have a small community that was completely self reliant we found three such areas. We visited one in WV a few years ago. They had purchased an abandoned housing development which had been left when the builder went bankrupt.
They had been operating for 6 years and were set pretty good. They had their own water, electric(solar, wind and diesel genorators), they have their own water from gravity fed springs. They grow and raise food, and have security, which we dodnt see much of but they assured us it was there.
Their kids still use public schools and they shop in town so they arent a cult or anything. They gave us alot of ideas which we have implemented.
They were the ones to tell us to never share plans or pictures online and to never talk about anything outside of the group. Im not real good about that.

As far as I know, they live on money from retirement, military pention, hunting and raft guiding and selling livestock.

How the Heck do you find a group like that? They seem to want to remain private...

How did they finance everything? Do they have dues or membership fees?

Did they have any advice for starting out a similar group?

It seems like they start out as just a few people and grow from there. In the back of "American Survival Guide" magazine from the 80's had a section just for people looking for groups and members. There has got to be a forum somewhere just for this???

You're on a forum... don't be bashful. Today, a major concern is OPSEC, and rightly so. However, if you want to start a group, you have to take that first step. I find that I don't have enough face to face contact with people to find folks with similar interests. I guess I need to be patient, and maybe socialize more.

It's generally best not too openly recruit online or even to overly discuss this online where it's monitored by agents of the government. While this form is pretty new you can guarantee that the state police will be monitoring it before long looking for just that sort of stuff.

Agreed. You don't want to make yourself a newspaper headline and the newest member of the deplorable alt-right hysteria to be targeted. Remember, preppers are also an enemy of the state according to the left as are the dreaded "militias", which don't even exist.

A friend of mine from the Army knew some people doing it in Texas, who hooked us up with the people in WV, they must have some sort of network.
They just have money, we didnt ask but they all had new trucks and beautiful homes. Many have military pentions.
They are VERY private. It took a month of talk to let 2 of us go there to see how they set up their water, sewer snd electric. As well as their animal husbandry and how they stay away from prying eyes.
Very cool and got slot of ideas.

I will have my mom and dad. Dads a cop and knows tactics moms a prepped without knowing it. She has tons of food. My father in law and mother in law. She's a nurse and a damn good one. He's got a lot of guns and ammo. My brother in law and sister in law both. My brother in law was in the army and knows survival and how to blow shit up. My other brother in law is a working engineer meaning he can build or fix anything. He has a mill and a lathe. Other than that I have not thought of anyone else.

Some good ideas! My mom is well versed in Gardening..definitely useful as well as canning. She makes banging pickles.
