Gun Buyback and pistol permit

I have an old OMC .380 “Back-up.” It’s used, with a significant amount of wear from being carried on an everyday basis years ago. On gunbroker, one of these in nice shape seems to go for 200–250.

There is a “gun buyback” this weekend where they are offering $200 for handguns, which is more than I think I could get for it. Does anyone have any experience with reporting the surrender of a gun to a buyback? I would have to file an amendment but there is no box for gun buyback.

As a secondary matter, I’d rather unload it to someone who will use it rather than melt it down. Is $200 for the gun, a magazine, and some 380 ammo out of line?

Had to look that one up, never heard of an OMC before. Then I discovered it's a renamed AMT.
Anyways, maybe post some pics of it? If it's in good mechanical shape external wear from carry shouldn't matter that much, though if nice examples can go for $200 as you say you might need to discount it a bit. Put it up in the classifieds here, see what interest you get.
Or maybe someone here knows somebody that needs a good carry gun but doesn't have a lot of money to spend.
I too would hate to see a functioning gun get turned over to the gun grabbers to be destroyed when it can still be of use to a law abiding citizen.

@Redshirt do the amendment forms by you have "other" as an option?

I don't want to give bad advice but in Putnam, my wife is getting ready to file an amendment so she can have our guns on her permit. The clerk told us to check "acquisition" and also the "other" box and fill in "co-registration".

I am not sure, you may want to call your clerk? I don't know what affect on your life (none, I would guess ) there would be if you checked "surrendered." I suppose technically, one way or the other, you are "disposing."

In my area, the gun buyback will not accept/take a "legally owned handgun" that's on my license for cash.
I turned in an unregistered/illegal handgun (not mine), which they gave me cash, no name/address required, no receipt (they don't give out receipts= can't go to the PLB to remove from lic.) But they did asked if it was registered to me, and if so I could surrender it ( "legal handgun") without getting paid or sell it to the LGS.
Shotguns & rifles are different.

I agree with @mak00 from what I have always read about these gun-buybacks is that they are for unregistered handguns! I would be more then happy to get $200.00 for a KelTec PF9 that I just hate!

How close do they 'look at' - these buy=back guns? Could be a business opportunity here - non-firing replicas surrendered as 'unlicensed weapons', Hmmmm!

Lots of widows & "old" men surrender their old rusted shotguns & rifles for cash.
There was a guy on line that surrendered his Enfield, said it was all rusted up & the action was frozen.
inspect.. they open the action to make sure there isn't a round in the chamber.
Some buy backs have a different/ lower price for non- functioning guns.

Peekskill Police Dept. to Give Cash for Guns Saturday | The Examiner News

The Peekskill Police Department will be hosting an anonymous gun buyback event Saturday, September 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church at 1040 Main Street.

No questions will be asked about any of the weapons that are turned in and cash payouts will be given. Payments are capped at $450 per person.

Cash payouts will be $250 for assault rifles, $200 for handguns, and $100 for rifles and shotguns. Active/retired law enforcement are not eligible. Police ask that all weapons be unloaded and that they be carried in some type of case or holster if possible.

If you have the time, equipment, and inclination you can make money of these buyback programs. Money that should be reinvested into legitimate use firearms and rated paraphernalia as a means to neutralize the agenda of such programs.
