If someone shoves a pistol at their own crotch and fires, in public, for all to see, whether intentionally, recklessly, or negligently, that's a constitutionally protected act? And the state has nothing to say about that? Is that really what the framers of the 2nd amendment had in mind?

His right to bear an arm is his constitutionally protected right. A negligent discharge doesn't revoke that right.

What's so hard about that to understand about that unless only certain people can only have rights in your book in contrast to what the Constitution actually says?

About the only charge he should have gotten is discharging a firearm within city limits if his city of arrest has such a law which is a fine at most.

It’s hard to tell when people are being sarcastic here, but come on. It’s not “what I approve of.” Shooting your balls in public is against multiple laws and is not a constitutionally protected use of arms. What, was it self-defense?

If he shot his dick in the privacy of his own home without disturbing the neighbors and dealt with the aftermath without involving public authorities there would be no issue. If he had mastered the art of the Hi-Point waistband tuck without shooting his junk there would be no issue.

When you cross the line to recklessly firing a gun on a public street and causing bodily injury, even if only to yourself, that’s endangerment and creating a nuisance using a gun. Exactly what should be punished. Maybe the finer point about whether he should be charged with unlicensed carry can be argued but this guy’s actions and that they should be punished, up to and including restriction on his use of guns, that reasonable people shouldn’t have a problem with.
