If you don't include suicide, war and exclude 2% of the geographic area of the country (the worst inner city areas) Our gun death homicide rates are lower than most places.

We can lower gun deaths by 2/3 by promoting non violent means of suicide like pills, carbon monoxide and bridges ... We can lower gun violence If we can get gangs to use 1960s-70s standards of killing each other via knives, chains and bats. If we encourage domestic violence to stick with blunt objects and strangulation everything will be in balance and the only gun deaths in the country will be accidental and government sanctioned.

It's only 553 in the war/legal group, and it's clearly marked as such. Ignore the media and pay attention to the actual numbers: homicide rate is 4.6 per 100,000. That's higher than most European countries, but it's still not that high in absolute terms.
