They're in bad shape because of poor financial decisions, not because of a soft market. Even though sales aren't at panic levels, they're still strong.

The market is saturated. I see lots of like new used stuff in the LGS. The industry should have known that the sales couldnt stay at that level.

Every other industry when it has a glut of inventory runs sales that bring in people. Firearms don't... that arrogance is why they hurt themselves. PRS stocks still sell for 240. RPRs still sell for 1300. Small examples, but it's like people in the industry assume well anyone who needs a 1600 rifle can afford the 1600. Sure, but you might also sell more if you moved a bunch of your excess at 1300-1400.

It's the people that are on the fence that need the sales, not the one who will buy it ergardless.

From a market and product standpoint they predominantly make FUDD guns. The Remington-Marlin marriage, they screwed up by not making handgun caliber lever actions which I think would sell well in the US communist bloc states that are tough on handguns and rotten on semi- autos. The shotgun line, the venerable 870 isn't what it use to be. It seems they were a day late when it came to upgrading their tooling for production as well. The perfect storm of combined bad business decisions.

Remington is failing because of their reputation for poor quality. Simple as that. The market is indeed saturated to suceed one must stand out or excell. Remington does neither.

Hear hear! Even if they sold excess units at a loss they would save the expense of storing the inventory. And blow out sales may attract people to modles and brands the wouldn't have considered initially.
For example at some point I want to get an enrtyish level target bolt gun as a range toy. Right now I favor the Bergara HMR, it seems to offer a high level of performance for the price. I am not considering a Remington 700 as the Bergara is supposed to be better in every way. But if Remington offered an identically configured 700 at half the price I would biy it instead. And maybe I'd decide the Remington was actually really good and buy more of their products.

Also, you help other product lines. When I buy a rifle or a shotgun the odds of me not buying ANYTHING else are so low they cant be calculated by humans. If it's a new caliber Im almost certainly buying a box or 3 of ammo to try. Probably an ammo can for my new found buddies, a sling or a scope, or a case. Like you probably break even. Even if I buy other people's stuff, other people buy your stuff with their new guns. It's so unfathomable.

I also can't imagine the margin on a wholesale gun is so low that if a 1000$ rifle went for 800 they dont at least break even.

The execs have to blame the market if they hope to save their jobs. It’s not the market it’s poor planning, forecasting and quality control. Plain and simple.

Remington Outdoors (RGR) is still trading at a decent price, Friday RGR closed out the week with 70¢ gain to close at $50.20. they are off their 52 week high by 27% and off the 52 week low by 12%

I hope they have a huge sale next Friday (Black Friday) Remington sells a couple of the most popular shotguns and bolt rifles in America. But like many have pointed out, quality continues to be an issue.

Now, if the law suite in Connecticut goes against Remington, they will be forced to file bankruptcy. (although Im amazed the lawsuit has gotten as far as it has)

My father in law just bought their tactical shotgun and had it for a week and it was rusting. Took them 6-8 weeks to get it back to him.

Might go buy a 7600 for shits and giggles for hunting in rifle zone. My brother just bought one this year in 30 06, I like it with just the irons like he is going to use it.

friend call all over the area here , not one Remington box of slugs to be found .. one place had some but a good hour drive ..

Had a bunch of 1100's...couple 870's and currently a 7400 in 30.06. 10 thumbs up for each. One thing that bothered me was going to plain wood on the 1187's. I love the dark marbled wood on the old 1100's. Now I have a Browning gold trigger model with wood so gorgeous I only use it in the tree stand. My smith and Wesson pump goes through the brush before me and shows it. Still a great shooter after 41 years
