What, specifically, would have been the harm in the gate person saying "I see you have a gun here, but you can't bring that on the plane as is. Please have it checked in, or return it to your car. Thanks?"

It happens a lot, and in the free states, where people aren't paranoid about gun laws, it really is as simple as not knowing that you can't do that. I mean, you aren't carrying it on the plane, it's in your bag. Oh wait, not the right one.

Good thing I do not care one bit about the guy in the original story. I do not use airports so I do not care about their rules. Since I do not fly, I never have interaction with TSA, so, I do not care about them either.

Not quite. Don't go about claiming victory because 2 dudes here want to go along with the BS charade that the majority of people in general really don't know that guns aren't allowed on airplanes after countless "NO GUNS BEYOND THIS POINT!" signs are in their faces.

The truth of it all is that those that got caught got caught because they forgot. Whether it was because they had it in a bag and forgot to declare it or forgot it was on their hip. Plain and simple. You can chaulk that up to just plain old forgetfulness or utter stupidity if they really thought they could CCW on a plane. Especially after 911.
