I'm with Busefalis. You took a shitty perspective on this. I have met so many people that think "you have to have a permit for that", "do you have a license for that?", and all sorts of questions and assumptions that are completely wrong for where they were asked. You shouldn't have to be a legal expert to exercise your rights.
Besides the two shitty assumptions you made, there is also ignorance of the rules/laws as I just mentioned. There is habit; my gun has been with me 24/7 for 15 years. One day I almost walked into an IRS office with it. Someone also could have forgotten to check the particular bag that has the gun because they aren't in that mentality that they are a criminal just waiting to get caught.
I was glad to read that they handled it correctly, mostly. No one needs to freak out. They don't need to call in SWAT. Just say, "Hey, it's cool you have a gun but you can't go past this point with it. How would you like to proceed?"

Long story short, no, nobody agrees with you guys. It's not common knowledge that you just shouldn't bring a gun to place X, because of reason Y. The IRS office mentioned is an excellent example. I would have never thought of that one either.

I do hope when you guys get jammed up though for something as easy as this though that you get as many "experts" telling you that you should have known better.

That had nothing to do with a bullet puncturing the fuselage. It was the result of stress fractures from many, many pressurization/depressurization cycles overstessing the rivet holes. Bullet holes won't do anything other than slowly let the air pressure equalize.

So the fuselage gets a hole through it. It's not like the air pressure difference is enough to do much from a tiny hole. The system that pressurizes the cabin would be able to compensate for at least a few holes.

Needs something like a hole bigger than square foot before the pressurization system cant handle it.

Mythbusters did this one. Even shooting out a window wont do anything.

And even if you *did* depressurize the cabin, the oxygen masks would drop and the pilot would drop below 10k and land at the next airport.

The only real danger from a gun is hitting a critical system, like hydraulics, or a pilot. All of them have backups.

In reality, a gun in a plane is not significantly more dangerous than a gun in a mall.

There is no comparison to the legging charge being that there is no actual Federal charge for carrying a handgun at an airport checkpoint like there is for post offices and schools, he more than likely illegally carried it and got charged with NY's Criminal Possession charge from the NY Penal Laws.

The legging incident is what happens when it a private entity, the gun is government. Airborneguy suggested that this was private airlines doing, and I was refuting his point.

At least they found the gun. The problem is that the majority of weapons ARE getting through and onto flights. The government intentionally tests the security of the TSA by sending through all types of potential hazardous and capable weaponized items, along with the obvious handguns and knives. They've shown that an overwhelming percent are getting through security. The TSA is a joke. I'm very nervous about flying these days, and I can tell first hand that the TSA is a failure.

The 3 to 5 people a year out of 10's of millions if not 100's of million American flyers who really didn't know and ignored every no gun sign and thought that the guy with the X-ray machine and wand was just checking for nail clippers and not guns are truly stupid then.

There is no ifs, and, or buts about it. If honesty ever wants to come into play onto this, those that did it knew but forgot they were carrying.

I agree but according to the TSA there are FAR more than 5 a year, try HUNDREDS a year. Recently they have been finding up to 20 a DAY.
Some of the people said they "forgot" about thrir gun, but many also said they DID NOT KNOW it was illegal.
When I saw this thread yesterday I thought Darth was just being a dick, but then I researched it a bit.
Call it stupid, or ignorant, or whstever, it IS happening ALOT!! Look around, these were just the first 5 I found on google this year, there are alot more. Look into the TSA stats, it happens over 1,000 times some years.

It happens a lot, and in the free states, where people aren't paranoid about gun laws, it really is as simple as not knowing that you can't do that. I mean, you aren't carrying it on the plane, it's in your bag. Oh wait, not the right one.
