I was looking at this.............Speer Gold Dot LE Duty 223 Remington 55 Grain Soft Point

or Speer Gold Dot LE Duty Ammo 223 Remington 62 Grain Soft Point

Winchester Ranger 223 Remington 55 Grain Pointed Soft Point

This will be for a 16'' 5.56 bbl 1x9 Stag upper.

Any thoughts/opinions...............I already have Fed. 00 bk w/ flitecontrol for the big guy, but always want another option for J.I.C.

Its very good stuff. Accurate, clean. I run the 64gr, I think the 62gr is replacing it, that weight is a good match for your barrel.

Yeah, I get most of my ammo from SG. Target Sports runs better deals on .22 though.

As far as HD performance goes, I think that 5.56 is the best HD caliber, plenty of terminal effect and limited overpenetration issues. With the caveat that the blast will damage your hearing indoors without hearing protection. JSP 5.56 is effective over a wide variety of situations.
Will 1 in 9 stabilize 69gr? If so OTM loads also perform very well if you don't need/want barrier penetration.

Some 1x9 will do okay up to 69 gr. from what I'm told by a few fellow shooters, but 1x7 is better for about anything that you can load in the mag.

OP was asking about a specific round so I related my experience with it. I'd rather rehash an ammo topic a thousand times then read endless political posts. But why argue about a fucking internet forum?

Because it's the internet and I can and will. Didn't expect panties to be bunched for something like a horse and popcorn emoji that almost always gets used in these sorta threads, all in good joys of the forum. Fun is fun and I enjoy my fun. And OP good luck in your round search for HD, anything on hand will do but specifics are definitely each to his own in this forum as we've seen with the many other back n fourths about this subject. But it seems podmonkey is the only one with answers on this subject tonight..if you don't get the answers you need, check the other forum too..and like I've heard somewhere recently, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way there..

I don't think you will be disappointed. They performed admirably in my 120 rnd initial evaluation.

That is a 30 round (4.3 Cuomos) group. Only at 25 yards but still not bad for consistency. Very little residue in the action after all 120 rounds as well. I am going to do some 100 yard groups with a variety of 5.56 cartridges in a few weeks the Gold Dots included. Also for clarity's sake the box has the round listed as .223 but it is in fact a 5.56 spec load.

Holy Crap !! That's some good shooting and grouping ! Looking forward to the 100 yd evaluation. I'll have some extra cash in May/June and will be ordering some, hoping the 64 grain will be back in stock at TS by then.

I don't know for sure but I highly doubt they would. I can find out for you when I get home though, I'll compare 55gr XM193 with the 64gr Gold Dots, and 77gr IMI OTM as well. for across the room HD distances I don't think it matters at all though. Zero at 25 yards and aim center of mass.

55 gr vs 62/64 gr will be negligible within distances up to about 200 yards. Might be less than an inch.

If you zero at 50 yards with either grain, (it's called the IBZ zero) your point of impact will be within 2 inches high or low from point blank range up to about 250 yards with no holdovers.

I always use IBZ works good for me. I usually just shoot 55gr, so was not sure if there would be a big difference. Thanks!
