My opinion. You can't grip with a handstop. There's nothing to hold on to like a vertical grip or an angled grip.

Angled forgrips are also g2g legal but are stupid, best options are the hand stops or a stubby vert grip used as the back part of a handstop (but not here in NY)

Federally yes. In NY however...

(a) a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following characteristics:

(iv) a second handgrip or a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand;

Like I said, federally it's legal because it isn't a forward vertical grip. Federally they only ban forward vertical grips in certain firearm configurations. The key there is vertical.

Does the ATF treat angled fore-grips the same as vertical fore-grips?

In NY, it's a handgrip. The manufacturer even calls it one. NY law says, "any grip."

Suppose I have no hands. Would my AR with a pistol grip and forward grip be considered non-compliant? After all, the "protruding grip" could not be held by my non trigger hand.
