What would it loom like with one of the 870 stocks with the steep semi pistol grip.

Why is this not still being made? Some idiot thought that it was to grippy? It the same as a mini14 grip angle.

It stopped being made because the design was poor and sales weren't great.

If you look at where your web between your thumb and index finger will go, it is too high and it's directly on the sharp end plate.

The Thordsen addresses that and is lower so it provides a place for that web.

It would still be too low. The buttstock would me on your armpit.

If you tried to put your cheek on the actual stock and not on the buffer tube, the buffer tube would be in your eye unless you had an a unusually long neck.

Yeh, spur with hook trigger guard is the least awful for ny.

Won't fit a Rem 870 stock, only Mossberg 500 compatible. But Magpul makes the MAG490 for Mossberg 500 and it works great w/Headbutt SGW-515:

Agreed he's shouldering it lower than he would really need to, for instance he could un-cramp his neck more, but it's still shouldered, and does shoulder up easily.

Hammerhead has been on the market for a long time (>7 years) and it works great, and the majority of our customers like it. Hammerhead bounces between the #1 and #2 best selling item in Amazon.com's Gun Stock Accessory category, and is very highly rated there (4.3 out of 5 stars currently). It didn't get that way by requiring people to have comically long fingers or necks or shoulder their stock in the armpit. Headbutt SGW-515 has been on the market for 16 months and employs the same stock placement as the Hammerhead in its Type I configuration, and it also works just fine. A Headbutt-equipped rifle allows you to get your finger closer to the trigger than even the FRS-15 does.

We get an awful lot of gripes about how uncomfortable or unworkable our products are by people who have just looked at photos on the internet. People who have actually tried the products have a much more positive opinion.

BTW the U-15 stock presented previously in this thread, was not a bad seller based on poor design as has been claimed. The designer and manufacturer of that product, Grant Early of California Rifles, has stated publicly that it was just too expensive to produce. He could not make money on it at the $200 MSRP, and the market would not bear a higher price. The stock was a combination of CNC machined parts and a custom stock portion made of wood, then painted. Very labor intensive to produce. 600 were made and they were all sold. The used ones are still in very much in demand.

IMO it cannot be compared with a mini14 because it is not simply a matter of preference. As I mentioned above the back plate will cut and or blister your hand during a long session of shooting. If you mill it down and take advantage of that natural cut like the throsten does then it might be ok. I have not tried that.

hi there! ... Mark, right?

I bought a bunch of them from your website and tested them with several uppers.
While they do work they are not the most comfortable even for my unusually large hands.
I shared different setups with other friends at the local range some still in the other forum and got the same feedback.
We also cut a T4 stock and put it upside down that improved the position but not the hand issues.
Same thing as the ACE stock but on the cheap for testing.
I also don't think the FRS is perfect but by unanimous opinion the most comfortable and the one that makes more sense
even including the the Ares defense. Of course given one cares more about actual performance and ergonomics than pure cosmetics.

The opinions are not just based on internet pictures or hearsay and we respect and give a fair chance to
anyone trying to help us in this state.

We love what you are doing and we have to start somewhere but IMO if one mills down that part following the natural shape
to stay away of the back metal plate then one will have a much more effective and comfortable grip.
I am simply guessing because I didn't mill down and test one but it seems a bit of milling work would do the trick.
AS-IS, protection from gloves are not an option as the reach is already too long, impossible for the safety and too much for the trigger.

Yep that's a customer photo of our Hammerhead product in what we call Type II config AKA the "shoulder thing that goes up." From our last market survey, about 25% of our customers go that route. 25% flip that buttplate down (what we call Type I config) and 50% or so use it as a pistol grip replacement and keep the stock attached to the back of the receiver.

Back on topic, here's a shot of a Headbutt-equipped rifle being shouldered. That's a Magpul SGA stock with no LOP extenders.

Meketrefe, of course there are some individuals (such as yourself) for whom our Hammerhead is not a preferred choice. However, it works for the overwhelming majority of those who try it, hence the product's stellar performance on the Amazon.com marketplace and in the AWB compliance market for the last seven-plus years. Could it be improved? You bet. We've got plenty of ideas (and prototypes) for how to make that happen. However in its current form it does have the approval of the CA DOJ under oath at trial (which means nothing for NYS unfortunately) so we're loathe to touch that mold tooling. We are considering etching in some extreme texture, but this won't change the overall geometry. BTW the milling you propose would turn it into a pistol grip under CA law. The spine of the product has to be where it is to keep the web of the trigger hand above the top of the exposed portion of the trigger, as per the definition of pistol grip in CA law.

This is probably a stupid idea, but what about a thumbhole outline stock, except with not hole. Rather, have a cave in the polymer, closed on the left side, for the thumb. Have the closed end on the hole blister out to the left to allow the insertion of the thumb in the normal manner of a thumbhole stock. Would obviously need a ambi selector.
