Heard of Project Appleseed?

@eris how are you holding it up ? like a shotgun ? .. I went to a CMP shoot for my first time and got schooled on how to hold a rifle off hand .. its just feels weird at first till you get used to it ..

eye candy and how to hold it .. got my buck with the mosin holding that way and I took it to the CMP shoot too ..

its a few hour drive or more for me for a Appleseed .. wish they where closer ..

I'm probably holding it wrong in some way, because I've never had anyone instruct me on the proper way. I've read a few books that describe off hand holds, but that's it.

its a weird hold but lots more stable .. totally diff then hunting with a rifle unless you know it and when to use it ..

I've seen that video before. I've never tried holding like that at the range because honestly I'd forgotten about it, but I may give it a try the next time I go.

@eris .. fist time to a CMP shoot i took my mini14 .. got shown that hold from the guys there .. and why .. then went back with the mosin .. the mosin left some black n blue marks on the shoulder lol i just had a tee shirt on lol ...

There has to be a way to do this with a side mounted sling on QD swivels right?

I have slings on my rifles but they work differently from that one. Mine don't need to be disconnected from the rear of the gun and you put your arm through a loop in the middle of the sling rather than the end. Will that make a difference at Appleseed?

Oh, the M1907 sling. I put one on my Garand too for the looks but they are a real hassle to use as a shooting aid, despite that being what they were designed for. You would be better of swapping out to the GI canvas sling for the shoot.

@Brian Colt the next AS at my Club should be in April. I try to post here when I know for sure and what the dates are, Club is in northern Saratoga Country.

Any sling is better then none! But the loop sling gives the most support. I think they are about $12.00 on the AS site?

i had no sling on my mini14 for the CMP i went to ... rigged up the loop sling for the mosin the next time .. but any sling .. twist your arm in that thing and suck it up .. it does help ..

Disconnecting the sling and putting your arm through the loop is just one way you can use the GI sling. It isn't the only way and they will instruct you on that. What you have now should work though.

AppleSeed is AWESOME!
it made me an all around better shooter!

I first shot rifleman at a nortatoga shoot. since we had a bunch of snow and it freezing they called it a "Winterseed"!
i have done Known distance shoots and others because its fun and you always learn something.
there are great shooters and instructors in this program.

what i LOVE is that its Rain or Shine!
I just did one during that Nor'easter in Oct and still shot the score in the Cold and Rain. (Crazy and Real!)
Didn't clean a Redcoat, but did get the shingle 3 of 4 times.

I wanna do one of these at some point. Shooting fundamentals are the most important thing to practice but are the first things we overlook.
Is shooting the whole thing centerfire frowned upon though? I'd rather shoot the whole thing with my AR and 5.56 is cheap enough for the quantities required. .22lr has ceased to have any appeal for me. The shortage waned me of of it I guess.

some are only 22LR, but i have been to one with AR shooters, no problem. (I think it depends on the Range)

Appleseed is a lotta closer innit? High Power takes you out to 600 yards right?
I wish more than anything I had the time to get more serious about shooting and compete. Although I'll tell you right now I couldn't hack it in High Power.

it can if the range is able. i have been to two matches and both were only out to 300 with reduced size targets to simulate 600

regular appleseeds are 25 meters

No. It says right on their Website any caliber up to 8mm.

No. It says right on their Website any caliber up to 8mm.

That usually depends upon the host range. My range allows both. It will tell when you find a shoot that I interests you click on the info link, like there may be a 5 or 10 dollar range fee for non members.
