Both documents were/are solely about the relationship between the federal and state governments.
The articles of confederation *were* fatally flawed in that they didn't allow the federal government enough control to function as a single sovereign state. It was more like the EU, as an alliance of separate sovereign states.
But, none of that has anything to do with how the people themselves were ruled (that was always only laws passed by the states well into the 20th century).
The constitution did add some things that the states were *prohibited* from regulating, but it never authorized the federal government to pass regulations that were binding on individuals themselves.
So, all your nonsense about it being some collapse caused by libertarian sovereign citizens is ridiculous bullshit. The constitution and the federal government didn't start regulating the actions of private citizens within the US until after the Civil War.
If a state failed to produce sufficient regulation for society to hold together, that was entirely the states problem, and not something that was even within federal purvue.

So, what acts of individual citizens exactly did the constitution authorize the federal government to regulate that the articles of confederation did not ?
The failure of the AofC was due to the federal government's inability to regulate *the states* and had nothing whatsoever to do with any regulation of the people.
Prior to the Civil War, the federal government barely had any regulatory power at all that any normal citizen would encounter.
Even well into the 20th century, most people never encountered any federal regulations that would affect them.
So, up until prohibition the feds were basically irrelevant to most people.
I'm generally libertarian, but recognize that anarchy is utterly unstable, so *some* regulations are necessary.
But, we have proven that a miniscule federal government works just fine. We survived with one for a century and a half.
Roll the feds back to where they were in 1900. You can't possibly argue that "society would collapse into chaos" with that level of regulation.

It is terrifying that commerce would grind to a halt if we had to pay per-mile tolls on private roads. I am grateful to learn that before Federal government, it was impossible to travel from one colony or state to another. And without Federal government, there'd be no way for MidwayUSA to ship anything to my house. In fact, before the Federal government, trains were impossible, as was shipping anything, anywhere on those privately owned railways that could not exist.

The US had a public education system as good as anyplace in the world. Then the federal department of education was established and things went rapidly downhill.
Virtually all the important government services are provided by local government (most roads, fire, police, etc...)
Virtually all the tax money is paid to the federal government.
You could eliminate 90% of the federal government, and redirect 10% of that tax money to the locals and things would be 100% better.
The state is incapable of fixing the roads without $$$ Federal help...usually 90/10 on 4 lane highways.........Even counties and Cities get Fed highway monies to improve traffic flow........except the T-way which hordes the cash but which still received Fed money regularly
