Help me decide 686 or Python?

I’m a Ruger fan as well, always have been . My very first handgun that I purchased for hunting white tailed deer and still own to this day 35+ years later is a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 mag. It’s one of my favorites and it still gets used. In addition to also owning a couple of older model single sixes.

My personal preference is OWB. For me anything bigger than a sub compact is uncomfortable after only a short period of time.

I lied, it came in today. First impressions- it's very heavy for it's size, the trigger is excellent. Double action is smooth and not overly heavy however I think The Python Double Action feel is a little better, it's smoother yet though slightly heavier.
Single action on the other hand is like nothing I have ever experienced before, I can discern no friction, no feel of anything, just the slightest perception of force being applied before it breaks and tge hammer goes forward. Sights are very basic black on black, there is a tritium vial in the front post but in daylight ts does nothing. I'll need to put some nail polish on the front post then later on I'll probably be replacing the sights. I'm looking and Meprolight 3 dots currently. Came with two moon clips and God all mighty are they flimsy, I'll have to be very careful indeed to not bend and thereby ruin them. TK Customs offers a higher quality moon clip I hear.
The rosewood boot groups are very pretty but I will probably be keeping the also included Hogue Bantam grips on there. With the wood grips (by Altamont) I can just about get all 3 fingers on if I get a nice high grip but the finger grooves don't line up.
I'll look into some larger combat style wood grips in the future.

Alright I figured out what I'm gonna do with this thing: gonna put black cherry VZ Grips on and a green fiber optic front post. And a case or two of Remington SJWCs.
And some snap caps, I want to learn how to properly do revolver reloads.
I'll work with the moon clips awhile.
For a holster I will start out with a basic DeSantis OWB thum break and a speed loader/moon clip pouch.
I don't expect this gun would be a brilliant summer carry option but whatever, I'm eager to work with it
The L-Comp will absolutely be my companion on fall woods walks.
Also looking forward to actually enjoying shooting .357 Magnums as opposed to the 340PD where any enjoyment comes simply from the spectacle of it.

VZ makes some very nice grips. I’ve seen the black cherry ones and I approve. Haha, I had a set of checkered Rosewood VZ boot grips on my model 19 snubbie for a while. But eventually switched em out for a set of secrete service boot grips .

You’re on the right track and can’t go wrong with TK customs moon clips. You’ll want to spare your thumbs and get yourself a good demooning tool as well.

I think the black cherry color will look fantastic against the matte blue finish of the gun. I think I will go with the full size grips, I'm concerned that any boot grip with fingers grooves will have the same issue as the factory grips. Which is a shame as the factory rosewood grips are beautiful.

You’re on the right track and can’t go wrong with TK customs moon clips. You’ll want to spare your thumbs and get yourself a good demooning too as well.

The BMT Mooner tool seems like the way to go, both moons and de-moons depending which way the cap is on.
However it's $90. Honestly I don't think I will need it anytime soon. I'll train with moon clips, learn how to efficiently do revolver reloads and I'll keep the moon clips reserved for carry. In the range I can just single load. I was looking at tge Speed Beez loaders and their loading block but that too is $90. This revolver has genocided my bank account so I need to cut back on discretionary purchases for a while.

And then of course the new M&P Carry Comps that I'm wanting. Imma steal your screen name at this point.

I'm thinking these would be the eventual replacement sights. It's a HI Viz fiber optic front post that also has a tritium vial in front of the light tube but the main reason I like it is that it seems beefy and qble to withstand some abuse. Likewise the LPA rear sight also seems like it could take a lick or two while still being adjustable.

I was also browsing TK Custom's site and saw that in addition to action work they also can put ventilation slots in the barrel rib. Who needs a Python at that point?

For the moment however I'm broke as a joke and the first thing I get is a 600 round case UMC SJWCs. SG Ammo is selling them for just about $.50 a round right now. Range ammo and carry ammo in one? I like that.
