Help me with my marksmanship

Went to range today and shot my G48 with standstill Glock sights. With the sights lined up and on target (standard man sized chest and head sillhouette) at 5 yards if I aim for the head I hit center of chest. If I go out to 20 yards if I aim for the head I hit directly on the head. Didn’t change my grip or trigger pull as far as I can tell. What am I doing wrong? I seem to have this problem with most semi auto pistols I have shot, but not with any of my revolvers. I was shooting 115gr 9mm FMJ hertiers brand if that matters. One thing is that I am right eye dominate but left handed. If I try to shoot with both eyes open I get double vision and see one front sight but double vision on the rear sight. I am wondering if switching to an XS brand type sight (one dot in front and one in rear, so you do the i so to speak) might help me. I’ve landed on the G48 as my primary carry gun as it fits the need that I have, and now I want to become more accurate with it. My group size itself is decent. I am looking into a pistol marksmanship class in June/July as well.

Glocks are usually "Dead On" sighting. If you're used to a 6:00 hold for a handgun, you'll shoot low with a Glock.

Yep, I usually bring a few of these targets with me. Helped immensely.

I had a thought, where do you put the Glock sights in relation to the target?



I’ve always used sight picture 3 as that’s how my smith and seasons and my revolvers seem to be sighted in for.

If you're gonna lob one over the plate, you've got to expect some one to swing at it.

I dont think I've ever once shot with OEM glock sights soooo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you have the same issue with any other pistols? I'm a believer in shooting a lot of 22lr as training/trigger time, ( also with this ammo shortage I still can do a lot of shooting ) I have a M&P 40/9 and a full size M&P 22 both are set-up with Vortex Venom red dots, both use the same holster also. I also have the M&P Shield along with the M&P 22 compact which also works with the Shied holster, I just want to find better matching sights for both.

For western NY I can't recommend Rochester Personal Defense enough.

I believe they do some events on the west side so you might find one there that isn't too much of a drive.

So I picked up a new laser bore sighter (lost my old one so this was a good excuse. So when I hold the sights on target (what I think is correct) I’m actually aiming low at 5 yards.

This is how I line my sights up, with the dot of the front sight just touching the bottom of the U on the rear sight. At 5 yards I’m aiming a couple of inches low according to the

When using that bore sight are you holding it with your hands or have it in a vice of some sort?

ETA What I get from your two pictures is that like @dwa12479 said holding at 6 oclock will have you shooting low. So you either have to line up the front sight above the U notch to compensate (not ideal) or hold dead on with the dot in the middle of the U.

The bore sighter goes in the gun and then I aim the gun with my hands as I would if I was shooting

Ideally you would put it in a vice to remove human error and confirm where the shots are going with both points of aim but I guess you could use a sandbag or something to make the shot as steady as possible. You could also play around with different height front and rear sights if you really want to shoot at 6 o'clock.

So I went out to the range again today. Shot at 5 yards. Adjusted and held my sights on target based upon what the laser bore sighter said my point of aim should be. All shots landed in the center mass area I was aiming at and none hit way low as had been previous times. I’m thinking the sights could be off now. Opinions ? Note: I was aiming and firing at a fairly rapid pace. If I took my time with each shot I’m sure my shots would have been a far tighter group.
