I go to the range maybe once every 2 weeks. budget wise, as long as it doesn't exceed 650-700What's your budget and how much do you shoot?

IF you love the vp9 then get one . The thing about owning handguns .... You never own just one .. Save your spare change and in the near future you will own another ......
1911 is on my list but i will take a look at the ones you've suggested, thnx@knuts if all you are going to use it for is range use I wouldn't focus on polymer pistols so much.
A heavier metal framed, all steel framed especially, will be easier to control. I'd look at 1911s or Berretta M92s or SIG P226s or CZ75/SP01 and such. Since you are rounds limited you could look more into the 1911s or see if you can get hold of an old SIG P210, S&W M39 or Walther P38/P1. All single stacks that will fit in the hand easier.
Think it depends on your judge in Onondaga big time. My coworker got the good one, maybe I’ll get luck tooMy wife had her sportsman restriction taken off by taking a 8 hour unrestricted carry conceal coarse with honor ridge tactical and writing the judge. We are in Oswego county.
It is BS. I got my permit unrestricted the first time, it was back in 2002. I don’t know anyone that didn’t get the sportsman restriction. Taking that coarse does not guarantee the restriction removal. Plus it is not a cheap coarse.Think it depends on your judge in Onondaga big time. My coworker got the good one, maybe I’ll get luck too
Got my letter in the mail today fellas. Handgun license approved. It’s on now boys
Leaning toward S&W m&p 2.0 in compact. Even tho I have sportsman carry restrictions gonna take CCW classes, and grab a NH out of state license. Spend a lot of time there. Maybe eventually wasting time trying to get a NY Unrestricted.
Also for science purposes this is Onondaga and turn around time was exactly 1 month (handed in app June 5)
............You don't enjoy shooting? The hell is wrong with you?! For me shooting guns is the most fun I can have with my pants on!Unless you are going to spend your days shooting at paper and enjoying it, I'd recommend something that can serve 2 purposes. Carry and home defense. Practice with that. Something like a Glock 26 or 43 with an extended magazine that gets you a full grip would fit the bill.
I see guys buying huge guns as their first gun and 1 of 2 things happen if they only go occasionally to the range. They either get descent with the big gun and can't shoot a smaller one for shit or they relegate the big gun to a life in the safe and practice with their carry gun.
I don't enjoy shooting. So when I go to the range, I'll only shoot my carry gun so that I can get better with it. If it was a hobby for me, I'd buy all sorts of big guns. Some metal and some plastic just for the variety of the sport. But it isn't a sport for me.
Nah. Not anymore. There is only so much I can take shooting a long gun at a piece of paper. It's easy. Shooting a pistol is more challenging and what I actually need practice on.............You don't enjoy shooting? The hell is wrong with you?! Take a class then, or do some competitions. Shoot some steel, milk jugs or what have you.Nah. Not anymore. There is only so much I can take shooting a long gun at a piece of paper. It's easy. Shooting a pistol is more challenging and what I actually need practice on.
Well I am just going to have to shoot a P320 because you are the second person to go with the SIG after some comparisons. So I ended up getting a SIG 320! Went to a few gun stores today and they were nice enough to let me hold a glock 19, vp9, czp10, walther ppq and a sig320. love the feel and of both vp9 and sig from all of them and the sig does feel sturdy. I like the idea of it being modular as well.
So now the waiting game begins
thanks for all the suggestions guys!
I went with the p320c over ther g19 but I will go back to pick up the g19 eventually.Well I am just going to have to shoot a P320 because you are the second person to go with the SIG after some comparisons.
But I think you will be pleased.
The Glock is distinctly meh in feel and appearance but in use it becomes more than the sum of its parts. The 19, I think, is just about yhe trimest double stack, three finger gun out there too.I went with the p320c over ther g19 but I will go back to pick up the g19 eventually.

Yea I sounded so sure, right? But was at the local shop earlier and wasn’t as impressed with the way the M&P 2.0 felt in the hand, actually liked the Glock 19 and really like the feel of the Sig P320.I'm going to recommend AGAINST a 2.0 Compact at this time. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE mine, great 3.6 lb factory trigger (still some slight grittiness but should smooth out), feels great in the hand, and I'm shooting it VERY well.
So why don't I recommend it? Because there are no factory 10 rounders for it, and S&W refuses to say when they'll be available. The gun comes with two magazine sleeves to let you use fullsize magazines in the Compact, but it doesn't work with factory 10 rounders! (sleeve moves around too much, okay for range work if you are careful, but I wouldn't trust it for carry) If you have an FFL who can do it, you could have them order the factory 15-rounders and pin/epoxy/etc to 10 rounds. My FFL did that for the two magazines the Compact came with.. and with the fullsize 2.0 I purchased. Funny enough, the factory 17-rounders there were pinned/epoxied to 10-rounds CAN use the sleeve. (hard to describe - the bottom near the base is thicker, thought I had pics but can't find them right now) I'm wanting to take another pistol class with MDTS in Deerfield next month, but not enough mags....
S&W also just announced a 2.0 Compact with 3.6" barrel (fullsize = 4.25", compact = 4").. but again, no 10-round mags. I'm rather ticked.
You can get 2.0 Shield (8 rounds), and use mag extenders to get to 10 rounds. (I'm currently testing a mag extension from Taran Tactical, full report in the future after I get more rounds through them - Strike Industries makes a polymer one for half the price) With being limited to 10 rounds in FUACNY, unless you want a bigger gun for better handling (or to mount a light), a Shield works wonderfully.
Honestly I have found that they are all so similar it really doesn't matter. Unless it says Remington on the side. Don't get that one.Yea I sounded so sure, right? This polymer striker fired market is tricky, so many pros and cons with each. Truthfully kinda leaning toward the Glock. I’ve shot rifles since I was young but never really got around to pistols til now and kinda feel like my first pistol, which I plan on using for both home defense and for building fundamentals, figured go with the gold standard and then experiment at a later date (maybe when I’ve relocated to a free state)
Appreciate the advice, will also take a look at the shield as well.
Good to know. I’m the kinda guy who will research this shit for months before making the dive. You see dudes online pick apart the nuances but I’m so naive at this point I’d doubt I’d noticeHonestly I have found that they are all so similar it really doesn't matter. I have a Glock 19 and a Walther PPQ but honestly I think the M&P has a lot of thingsGood to know. I’m the kinda guy who will research this shit for months before making the dive. You see dudes online pick apart the nuances but I’m so naive at this point I’d doubt I’d notice
Damn you. Your are making this decision that much harder lolI have a Glock 19 and a Walther PPQ but honestly I think the M&P has a lot of things
going for it that the other two don't. They are common like Glocks so finding holsters, sights and mags will be easy along with a healthy aftermarket, none of which the wonderful PPQ has unfortunately. And the M&P has better ergonomics than the Glocks. I think they look pretty cool too. The main downsides are that they are heavier, of that matters to you at all, and the triggers aren't great, which honestly doesn't matter as much as everyone wants to think it does.
Here, I'll make easy again. Which one looks the best to you? Get that one. In all other regards whatever you choose will be just fine.Damn you. Your are making this decision that much harder lol
I would get the one where you can find holsters and parts anywhere. Here, I'll make easy again. Which one looks the best to you? Get that one. In all other regards whatever you choose will be just fine.
..............."Hick ups"?I have a Shield, PPQ,VP9, And 2 P320's.... Like them all The PPQ had some hick ups at first so I have never carried it. ALL are good choices and ALL shoot better than I can . That saying I do seem to give the thumbs up to the P320 as it is my carry gun most of the time . The Shield was my first choice ... Don't regret it... A good warm weather carry gun .
Wow you hate it like that lmaoFuck sig and fuck the 320
How's yours treating you?Wow you hate it like that lmao
