I have a 444CF 4500PSI tank in my garage. I also have a crap load of 68CI and 45CI 4500 PSI Paintball tanks (and a lot of other paintball gear) that I eventually need to get rid of.
Anyone ever try or own a compressor? I think if a couple of guys got together and bought on of these it would make sense.

There's a kit for sale that uses actuators to make a standard tire pump into and air compressor. I have to look through my notes for the name.
I'll post my progress here, it's my first PCP airgun, I have springers and 10m air pistols. What I have is a 50 yard range on a couple of acres so I wanted a quiet, low-powered, high shot count, full sized rifle to start with. It's treed on the West side so wind will be less of an issue, so when I found a gun tuned to do 12 fpe, 800 fps with a 8.4 .177 pellet for 200 shots per (onboard) tank I jumped on it. That big tank should fill the gun at least 20x for $8 (NVP Paintball).
The math is 0.2 cents per shot for air. JCB Exact pellets are $16/500 so I'm shooting for 3.5 cents per shot.
I went back and forth a lot and almost got a Taipan Mutant bullpup but I like to shoot offhand and thought the rear cocking bullpups would be awkward. I probably should have just gotten a Benjamin Marauder or BSA R10 but the RAW's are some of the best made-in-USA guns and I realized that I can readily sell it for what I paid for it (benefit of buying used from a reputable seller).
It's all a rationale to work on the land, I like to rent Bobcats and knock down trees, get stuck in the mud, make a mess. Come April I have to haul a bunch of junkyard trash out of there....

Little advice...go with a mid-mounted side lever gun like a Hummingbird or Vulcan (Vulcan's not as smooth as the HB but gun is easier to get). You won't go back to the Cricket/Mutant style once you shoot a left-side lever gun. Especially if you ever go with Night Vision. You want the right hand on the grip/trigger/safety and your left hand operating the side lever/bolt. Works like a charm...and you can shoot all 14 rounds without taking your eye off the scope.
I looked into buying one but they cost about 3K, my fire department will fill the 444 CF bottle for nothing.
I like this idea, I'm going to shoot the heck out of this gun first before shopping but the rear cocking and loosing the sight picture was a deal killer for me with a lot of bullpups. And I didn't want to take a chance on the FX Impact.
For me the paintball place is a good option but if I were in a more remote location sure... although I read on the airgun forums that a lot of less expensive high pressure compressors and related options require a lot of maintenance, adding an air dryer drives up the price, etc. so a lot of people start with the cheap option and end up having to upgrade later on. The Air Venturi is new to the market (Chinese import) and I'd wait to get some reviews and experience before buying one. There is a less expensive option called the Shoebox that uses a regular shop compressor to do the first stage and then it somehow piggybacks and further compresses the air. I guess they work but are slow and light duty.

So how does a RAW differ from any other firearm. its use and regulations in the eyes of the Empire?

Simple...A "firearm" expells it's projectile through the the use of primer & powder. No primer/powder/explosion, not a Firearm. Will try and find the proper wording, but that's it in a nutshell.

218bee, I don't know where you got that definition from, but here is the New York State definition directly from the DEC website:
Definitions
Air gun - a firearm that uses spring or compressed air (not gunpowder) to propel a single projectile that is .17 caliber or larger and produces a muzzle velocity of at least 600 feet per second. Smooth or rifled bore air guns are allowed.

Hi Haunt, it's verbatim from the NYS Penal Code S265.00. Scroll down to the definition of "Rifle". Guess both definitions clearly say no cartridge or gunpowder so I would think we're good in a court of law.
Also just went on the NY Safe Act website and they make absolutely no mention of Airguns.

Agree on the SAFE act, I must have lost my mind when I said that.
As far as the "firearm" thing, I wouldn't want to go to court with that evidence. That DEC page states that an air rifle is a firearm and is subject to all NYS regulations regarding the discharge of a firearm. For me, I would play it safe and keep 500' from any other dwellings and follow all firearms dischare regulations.

Believe DEC uses term "firearm" very loosely and any references to "firearms" in ECL pertains to hunting regulations. For example a standard configuration bolt center fire long rifle would be referred to as a "firearm" within ECL with respect to hunting. They added air-powered rifles capable of hunting about 5 years ago. Neither of these examples are "firearms" under New York Penal Law, although there may be certain city and local regulations (e.g., NYC requires a license to possess a bb gun). Only states that I am aware of the consider bb-guns/air powered guns "firearms" for purposes of penal law are New Jersey and Rhode Island.

The only place that I have ever seen the conditions for discharging a firearm (500" from house, school, playground, church and not across a road) is the NYS DEC regulations, which I agree are hunting regulations. Are these regulations in NYS Penal Code S265.00 ? I don't think so ( but could be wrong).

I shoot on several secluded acres with Republican neighbors, it's quiet and I keep the peace so I'm not worried.
RAW has different barrels to buy and install, this one is a LW and not too shabby but you can go heavier, polyangular, etc
