Not everyone uses 10 round mags in a nightstand gun. The sight radius can make a difference and for someone concerned about velocity why would you not want more barrel? Bigger does not have to mean 19 vs. 17. A 19 for carry and a 31 for the night stand could be an option for some.

Ok dude. If you say so.

Those revolvers were used as examples because back in the day because very few people had snub-noses for carry and 6 inch barrels for home defense due to sight radius. The snub-nose served 2 duties.

15 vs 17. Same difference. 4 inch vs 4.5 inch barrel. Huge difference right?

A lot of people bash Hi-points but fact is they will out run any 1911 in existence. Heck maybe even a glock. They are overbuilt and are like bricks. Go search for Hi-Point torture videos people run them over fill them with mud and they still work lol.

Oh they do have a lifetime warranty too.

Since I agree with you now, I will be upgrading to an AR with a 22 inch barrel for the extra sight radius and taking classes on full sized pistols like the Glock 17 so that I don't miss a chest cavity at 25 yards.

I have to dump my ccw too since the 3.5 inch barrel is useless in the street.

Just a little healthy discussion and sharing of opinions - nothing to take personally.

Make sure you get a good scope on that 22" barreled AR. It would be a shame for all that extra sight radius to go to waste. :drool:


Everything we do with guns is a compromise. We might carry tiny guns with limited capacity because they're comfortable to carry and easy to hide - the trade off is they tend to be harder to shoot accurately.

If weight and size aren't a consideration, bigger, easier to shoot guns with the maximum allowable capacity might be more desirable.

I've got a friend who builds choppers who will tell people, "Build what you like, then learn to ride it." Same goes for guns - pick what you like, then learn to use it. There's no right answer for everyone.

If you're worried about sight radius in a HD situation, you need to shoot more.Throwing 25yds around this conversation is ridiculous. 4 or 5yds is more likely, at which point you should know your gun enough to place the front sight and squeeze. Rear sight will not matter.

But back to the topic...

If you're carrying a double stack compact handgun that from the factory holds more than 10 rounds, something in NYS like edward's P07 cz would be an excellent 10+1 choice for a nightstand gun. It's a duty sized frame that will outperform the task during an home invasion than any revolver that comes to mind. Your posts seem like something Andrew Cuomo would say to be honest, no offense.

I didn't really read this no offense other than you don't carry anything that comes factory 10 or more which I personally don't understand but that's your personal choice

But thank you @Uzi my P-07 would make a pretty nice bedside gun
(Honestly i want a P-09 for a bedside, especially if we ever figure out how to ditch the 10 round limit, and no I'm not talking about just the safe act bs, but also NYs prior ban on any thing over 10 rounds, unless made prior to 1994, but you know people only ever got mad when the safe act came about because then their previously OK prebans were now not cool, but that's because it's a good excuse for getting a P-09)
Along with all that having a second dedicated gun is nice because as someone mentioned gun safe by the bed having a dedicated bed gun locked up in there is convenient and carry gun stays in holster in safe safe.

Also the P-07 Will be much better for a bedside gun once I save up and switch out the inforce for a uboat

Im not a gun guru, I will just state my experience.
When I take pistols to the back yard, I bring SR1911, SP101, Shield 9mm and G20 10mm.
I do alot of close range(7-15 yards) shooting from draw, kneeling, back, front........
Hands down, zero argument, the SR1911 and the glock 20 are absolutely easier to hit the bullsye. There is almost no aiming involved.
My buddy has the same experience with his Taurus 740 and SR1911 5inch.
It may be that the full sized guns are just easier to find the sights but, they are definitely more accurate at close distance when firing in a stressful, (ie..draw, back, prone...) situation.
Just our experience.
I have very little experience other than backyard shooting with a couple people, no range experience. Ive seen maybe 5 people shoot a handgun live in person.

No offense taken, But you misunderstood what you read. The only reason my "carry" (not all) handguns aren't quite ten rounds is because since I carry everywhere, I like the comfort of single stacks and frankly in general I like the thin look and feel of full size grips on single stacks. I don't haul around any extra body weight and my clothing isn't baggy or too long, so concealing with a duty sized double stack in the appendix area that will only hold one or two more rounds in NY would suck horribly when I'm just wearing a classic fitting t-shirt and a pair of jeans which I always do. It has nothing to do with only wanting under ten rounds LOL, I carry a spare mag in a kydex holster always with my kahr. That's perfect for me. Doesn't matter if I'm in NY or AZ, I do dislike carrying big chunky guns, especially when I'm riding my downhill bike, hiking, climbing, skateboarding, bmxing, motorcycling etc which I do very often. I have a great system that works for me and it's not to say that depending on the situation and where I am I won't be carrying different guns or more than one at a time.

You mentioned about having a gun safe near the bed. Personally I don't believe in gun safes near the bed kind of thing. I don't need additional steps that need to be taken to excess a loaded weapon when there is a bump in the night. 24/7 I will have immediate access to my weapons. I don't have to worry about children accessing my weapons or anything like that.

No bed safe here either, I just pointed out someone mentioned it and I understand the logic. Me nope just me and the gf at the place so no need to worry about any ND.

I envy you guys. I just bought my first bedside safe, because my kid is now big enough to get into drawers. I don't like having a delay getting to my firearm if it's needed but the trade off is worth it.
