Probably correct but the fact remains unless he entered or attempted to enter this man’s home he can’t shoot him unless he was threatened in some other manner. Kind of odd that this man is so old and an FFL and hasn’t done anything like this in the past.
I agree there is likely more to this story and of course it made the news with him being an FFL and all. Is that part of the story or thrown into show how gun owners are bad??

Of course it's thrown in to show how gun owners are bad. His being an FFL is irrelevant to the story. I wonder if alcohol was involved because I can't understand how asking for directions results in a shooting.

I don't comment much on this type of incident. I guess I must be bored and am willing to stretch my neck on the block .
If the article is accurate I cannot fathom how "more to the story" can exonerate the shooter.
Copy and paste from the article: "Reilly told the victim to get off his property before firing multiple shots at the victim as he attempted to leave in his vehicle, striking the victim once in the back, causing serious physical injuries".
Information in that sentence tells me that the victim was told to get off the property and he complied. Also states he was attempting to leave IN HIS VEHICLE. He was in his car! Also says he was wounded in the back. Wounded in the back while in his vehicle and attempting to leave. Multiple shots fired! Maybe the shooter was under the influence of something or maybe he is simply a irresponsible ass who owns firearms.

I doubt there are enough missing pieces that would make this seem justified.

But with what we have it's just plain incomprehensible.

To continue the speculation....

Valerie Drive is a small dead end street in a high end neighborhood. The "delivery driver" is a real moron if he couldn't find his way on a road that is a couple of hundred yards long, where all the houses are well marked with street numbers. Map below.

I'm going to bet the purple tie mafia will find out the "delivery driver" didn't have an order on that street, and will give that discovery little to no attention. I would further bet that the "delivery driver" was casing the neighborhood, and either threatened the shooter, pointed a weapon at the shooter, or made a motion as if pointing a weapon at the shooter.

While I see your point it doesn’t mean that this is true or that’s all there is to the story. The delivery driver could have been using DoorDash as a front to see who was home and who wasn’t. This has happened before. Is he even a real DoorDash delivery driver. This guy could have rang the doorbell and when no one was home entered this man’s house burglarizing it making it perfectly acceptable to shoot him in his defense. Now if the story is true and he was fleeing then no he cannot. As you mentioned you can’t just shoot someone for coming on your property asking for directions.
Could the home owner be fed up and deranged yep? But him being his age and being an FFL says contrary to that. His FGL would have been pulled for any minor criminal incident in NYS from what I know. Seems a bit odd to me but people do snap at times.

I drove by that neighborhood when I left my office this morning. As I was leaving, a van from ABC News out of NYC was pulling in.

We might hear a little bit more about this.

As he was leaving in his vehicle once told to 'get off my property', he was shot once in the back per most 'news' sources.

If that’s the case it is bad and should have never happened. however if his battery died you would think his cell phone would still be working and he would call someone for help. Everyone has cell phones these days. I would not go knock on someone’s door for directions and if his car battery died was he going to walk there?
