The 8 mm lebel is definitely one of historical importance. Truly along lines with the 30.06 even if it was short lived. The era that it ushered in is nearly 150 years old.
Its large chamfered rim and extreme taper, both vestiges of its development for safety in tube magazines (nose to primer risk), led to the caliber being unsuitable for double stack box magazines, and imbued large capacity magazines (for LMG use) with a high amount of curvature, with some forming a complete semicircle.
