And? Most departments in NY already have moved up the hiring age to 21. They don’t care.
Stop thinking that the police have any say on these laws. Politically the police are not seen in a good light right now. They don’t care about police officers and the death of a police officer is just a chance for a press conference got them.

As we saw so many times in the summer of 2020, if they do not enforce a law, it might as well not exist.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing. I know what a dope I was at 18. Brains don’t mature until about 24. The “go to war” argument doesn’t really hold up. Before going to war you are trained intensively on how to use your rifle and when to use your rifle. One reason young men have always been preferred at soldiers is because they are impressionable and emotionally risable. The kids who are safe with guns are the ones who have been trained for years by their parents. The buffalo kid is broken. HIndsight being 20/20, should the dealer not have been a little more curious about a kid coming in on his 18th birthday to buy 2 ARs? Slowed the kids roll somehow? I’m not advocating for any dopey new regulations, Im just thinking outloud. The kid is/was broken. Far too many people are broken in our country these days.

It's my contention that "adulthood" really begins at 21, of course there are those that mature well ahead, and many more that go long past that metric, but this is about mental maturation, something 18 year severely lack.

I can remember when I was 18 years old. I think the age to own a gun should stay at 18.
Actually I think the age should be lowered. I started owning my own guns at 14 years old. (1977)
I still have the Mossberg 500 12ga that I bought in 1978.

Actually police made arrests. The DA refused to prosecute. Then the those protesters sued those officers. Big difference. When was the last time a police officer was involved in the sale of a firearm from an FFL other than as a buyer themselves. The police generally don’t enforce those laws anyway.

If you arrested the rioters the riot is over, if the DA let's them all out the next day that's his problem.

Pretty sure the FFLs would care a lot less about the gun laws if they didn't have to worry about getting arrested, or their license pulled and then arrested when they continued to do business.

You may want to split hairs about who is a police officer vs a peace officer vs a federal agent. To the rest of us, if you have arrest powers you're a cop. If the people with arrest powers refused to make arrests then it doesn't matter how corrupt the rest of the government was, people would just tell then to pound sand

DA investigators, ATF agents and FBI are separate from most cops and have their own distinct culture .
Your veto argument is like saying if the soldiers in the military can just decide to veto an order.
Now, you will claim the police officer can just quit where a solider can’t . Not always true. The officer can be arrested and convicted for official misconduct.

If it’s a felony that the cop did not make the arrest for yes a police officer can be charged with it.
The benefit is to the person you didn’t arrest.
