Holy 357 loads!!!

I have been loading 38s for my 686 and having a lot of fun at the range. I decided to make some magnum loads and got some Winchester 296 powder and 125 grain XTP bullets. I was suppressed to see the loading window is 21-22 grains. So I loaded at 21.5 grains. And holy crap!! The blast and fireball is unbelievable!!! I think the guy a bay down was about to fall on the floor when I lit the first one off.

I dont think I will be firing many but not like the typical factory ammo for sure.

I use Power Pistol for my 357 loads, and it's already a loud and obnoxious powder. 9.0 Gr of that really barks.

I only use 7.2 in my 10MM loadings.

The listed MV is crazy high like 1900fts. A friend measured the same load in the same type of revolver and was not anywhere near that.

Good grief! Thats nuclear hot innit? I thought a standard full power .357 load pushed a 125gr pill to 1600 fps or something?

It is nuclear for sure but it didnt break 1500 when my buddy measured it. I think the books use a 12 inch barrel or longer tho. This load rattles my brain, really!

I wish the range would allow video, it makes the factory magnum loads seem like 38s

I use to buy reloads at the gun shows up to the year before last year. I bought a half gallon zip lock baggie full of 357magnum. About half way there the bag I shot one that sounded like a 300 magnum going off and you talk about recoil.

I threw the rest away and bought new stuff until I started to reload my own stuff. If I fuck up and get hurt, it will be my own fault.

For fun in 10mm, I load 15 grains of Alliant 2400 under a 135 grain Rainier plated bullet. See pic.

The Power Pro 300-MP 17gr pushes that 158gr bullet out screaming of my Rossi 92 over 1500fps.

My Hornady 10 manual for 125g XTP's start at 16.9 and max out at 20.3 for win 296. You were just a shade over maz according to my manual.

I get frustrated with the manuals they are all over the place. The powder manufacture states 21-22 grains

I ask hornady once why their newer manual had lower loads the the previous one his answer was they used a different gun to check velocity on the proof loads so one was a 4in hand gun and the other 6in hand gun. So to get the velocity number the powder load would be different .
It made sense to me.

I always used H110/296 full house loads. If I recall correctly, it's dangerous to reduce loads lower than the books recommended starting loads. I also used WC-820 which was a surplus M1 carbine powder.

Thats what I read. And Hornaday recommends loads that are in that light danger zone.
