Holy Cow, $15 a Box for Mags?

I uncased my Single Six the other day for a wipe down, it's been sleeping for awhile. Last time I had it out for some shooting, I put it away with the 22 mag cylinder installed. I was thinking come next time out I would get a box of 22 mags and give then a try. All I've ever used was 22 lr.

And, 22 mag is supposed to be a tad more accurate in this revolver. What's not to like? Cost. A box of 50 was $14.99. Plus tax broke $16.00.

My very first firearm when I was a kid was a used Marlin 22 mag bolt rifle, I don't remember the model. So I've been entertaining the idea of getting another 22 mag rifle; what the hell, I've got his handgun anyway.

Honestly, I'm kind of bummed. The price for the 22 mags really floored me.

I have 6 rifles chambered in 22WMR it is a really great caliber. I also have a few in 17HMR and 17WSM, both are as fun as the 22WMR and cost about the same to shoot.

Yeah 22 mags are not really for plinking! I to have a Single Six (Hunter model) I do remember reading some where that CCI-SV was the best 22 lr for accuracy in the 22 mag bored barrel?

Pretty much the same thing here. I’ve got the CZ 455 in 17 HMR and an excellent shooting Mossberg 640 in 22mag as well as the Single six with the 22mag cylinder. All fun shooters. The CZ is a tac driver

Most of my reading seems to show that the accuracy of 22 mag over lr in the Ruger is really not worth noting. But I do like the extra pop! Those 17s are pretty trick, I can see the attraction.

It's not much of a sale if it's over $13 a box. That's my limit per box on 22wmr and I buy a few whenever/wherever I see it for $10/box regardless of how much I shoot it.
Great round and will actually move the bigger gongs at range.

Although you paid more than most charge, 22 mag costs about the same as 9mm. Maybe 9mm is a cent per round less at $0.18 per round vs $0.17 per round. Your box should have ran under $10 before tax.

When I stock up during rebate season, I find that the spread between bulk ammo 9mm purchases and reloading costs is quite small. I am not sure if that luxury will be long lived.

Yeah. That seems to be the going rate but cci and fed are both a penny cheaper per round.

I guess, I look at it this way for plinking I will shoot 22 lr over 22 wmr or my 17 hmr! But to small game hunting the 17 hmr and the 22 wmr would then be my choice over the 22 lr. Each has a job that they are better suited for!

I've been shooting my Ruger PC9 in NRA AR (Americas Rifle) Challenge matches at my Club and inside of 60 yards out shooting the guys with AR's. At a 100 yards the AR's over take me! Each has a job!

I did buy at my lgs and he ain't cheap. If I had gone for more than one box I might have gotten a deal. Anyway, for me I think the 22 mag is a dead end. Like nortatoga basically says, what need has to be satisfied?

To have fun and shoot a gun. That's the only reason you need.

I think one of the reasons that 9mm carbines have become so popular is that the ammo is cheaper than just about anything outside .22LR now.

Pod, I hear you. No real need or reason, but I wanted to "up" the 22 hobby to something with a bit more umph. There will probably be a 9 mm rifle down the road, hopefully walnut and blued steel.
