I was going to direct you to the Pine city range to see the schedule . There GSSF match is one of the best matches around. I been working that match since it started. Most likely it will be the same weekend in September of 2018 as previous. But September of 2018 is a long ways off.
The folks at Pine City are top Notch. Get in touch with Alan S or Greg S and let them know you want to compete. I think they were starting up a evening combat league. I cant think of a safer group to get started with . Send them an email you will be competing very soon.

Where do you shoot? What ranges around here are having matches?

I travel for matches, Sometimes all the way to Florida. I am going to Taledega Alabama next moth for a match. I am in Rockland County NY about 40 minute north of NYC
As I said GSSF is a great venue for begineers as its static and SAFE ,

Check the schedule see whats around.

In my area there are 2 great winter service/combat leauges that I shoot

One at the monroe chester gun club CHESTER NY

And one at Master Class Shooters supply

I understand there is also a club in Duchess who has a winter indoor league

I would love to do evening shoots and all but I work 3rd shift in Ithaca (hour drive away for me)

I would ask around and see there might be ones on your way to work. You could shoot before work. Once you find the right people there might be more in your area than you thought. I have found a lot of places close to me that I never knew were running non sanctioned events. It's a lot more common than people know. I think it's because it's NY and people don't like to talk about gun sports.

OK shooter show me and all clear,

I love the sounds of an outdoor match , some one clearing a field of steel with a sub 6 second run. or the sound of a 12 person line after the buzzer goes off. Once you start to compete your going to love it . I just wish I would have started decades earlier . I can thank Dennis Serpi of master class shooters supply and his great advice "Only shoot at what your supposed to Larry" That was sound advice then and to this day as I am getting ready to do a run his word echo in my ears, I miss him

The adrenaline flowing through your body as you reach for your holstered gun, when you hear the beep. Lots of good memories from my IPSC days. The quick 180 as you start the El Presidente stage. Good times.

There really is no comparison to that style of shooting. I'm so addicted to it that I'm trying to lock down a property close to me where I can do my own courses. Next purchase is a shot timer. After that some steel targets.

I've been watching the videos from T-Rex holster manufacturer. I like that he uses the blue barrels as barriers. I think I will do the same for my course.

No problem there is a class called unlimited, thats the class you'll should shoot.

Most sights are not a problem , Bring a friend with stock 17 and shoot theirs

YES YOU GOT IT , Sounds like you been there before.

I forgot to add, there is areal lot of great shooters at a match,if you want to shoot better get with better shooters .

And again I don't even care if I place dead ass last i just love competition environments (used to play division 4 paintball back in the day) and figure I could go to the range and shoot at a target I put up but that gets boring and very little self improvement or have fun watching good shooters shoot

Other cool things about GSSF: If you buy a multi-year membership to the organization, they'll send you a coupon good for "blue label" pricing on a new Glock. This pricing is roughly equivalent (depending on the shop) to Law Enforcement pricing. The organization is also a CMP affiliate, so GSSF membership satisfies that requirement for purchases from the CMP.

At the matches themselves, prizes include money, gear, and even guns. And depending on the size of the match, random drawings are held for free gear and guns too.
