The most beautiful trapping partner and I threw a dozen dp's out after work today. Hopefully pick a few coons up with the warm weather.

Caught the 2nd coon of season last night in MB550. This set was on ground, covered with wax dirt, next to log with bait/lure stuffed under log. Plenty of yote/fox sign on and next to log over the last few weeks.

Looks like a yote dug up (but did not trip) a different MB550 three nights ago. Total of a dozen MB550s out at the moment. I have a lot to learn!

In your experience, will yote/fox/coon stay prime until end of February?

Them k9's will get you scratching the head wondering what to do. You may see some start to rub, if I have time I keep running. I back off the coon mostly and target k9 till the end of the season unless like right now a warm front is in. I got the goose egg on the dozen dp's I set though.

1 coon and 1 grinner out of the dozen this am. Had a bunch set off, I think the rain and drop in temp slicked them up enough where they just went off as bait was still in them....I tried recording the release of the possum but my phone shut itself off half way through for some reason.

What the fark. It is like the switch got turned off... no critters, no tracks, nothing, for the last couple weeks.

Got another coon, 13 lb sow, with DP. Bait sat in trap untouched for at least a month.

Fox dug up a few MB550s buried in waxed dirt. The other MB550s had a crust of frozen dirt making them inop.

dig ups are usually b/c there is odor on the trap, or it isn't bedded solid and they felt it rock when they stepped on the jaws or levers. Try bedding them more solid if possible.

Picked a coon yesterday morning and another this am...not rubbed, still nice leather. Got about 2 more weeks to snag some up.

I am sure you are correct. Today I tried a trappers cap to allow me to much more firmly bed. Traps set at 2lbs are like handling nitroglycerine, so I never bed them good until now. Hopefully get my first fox or yote in next few days. Thanks again for all the help.

This type of weather it is hard to bed solid a lot of times. If you can't get a great bed job, try putting a small pebble or dirt ball right in ront of the jaws. Try and guide the paw to the pan, make that 1 step the safest/ most appealing looking spot to step. That way they don't step on a jaw or lever and feel the rocking, hopefully they step on the pan and game over.

Looks like a coyote worked a mb550 dirt hole set last night. Trap fired, but no yote caught. Does not look like trap was dug up. Chain was not pulled tight, instead the fired trap was just sitting neatly in the bed. No sign of struggle or fight to get free.

Another possibility is freeze/ thaw weather caused it to fire. I've had it happen.

Picked up a double on coon this morning.

Yes, I'll often put 2 or even 3 dp's in an area together. Cheap cat food for bait.

Flat set? Dirt hole? Blind set?
    What bait? What lure?

It was a flat set bedded in peatmoss. I used a small rock as a backing with some urine and scattered some cat food up at the backing and in front of where the trap was bedded.

    Nothing for days.
No coon, no fox, no yote.
Not even a possum or skunk.

Then this morning, tripled on coon!
    Aww yeah!

Three DPs within 10 yards of each other, next to swamp/creek. Marshmellow under trigger of DP, covered by dog food. A dribble of molasses on the dogfood and marshmellow. Salmon oil across the trail. A dab of fox gland lure on the DP.

Yes, all three on DPs. I have yet to get anything on the MB550s.
