How bad is it? Scratch in barrel extension

Upon inspection after an expensive hour at the range, I noticed a scratch in my barrel extension. It very well could have been there when I bought the barrel. Is this problematic in an accuracy/reliability sense? It’s in the roughly 11 o’clock position in this phot.

It's probably not going to be an issue, but you might want to try to apply a small amount of Neosporin over the scratch now to be safe. You'll want to avoid any iron oxide formation which can infect the barrel if the exposed area contacts salts from the burnt powder residue. Wait a week and let it form its own protective oxide layer with the antiseptic, and it should be fine. Do make sure the dust cover is closed while waiting so dirt won't get in the area as well.

A: “that’s pretty bad, you should replace before firing again for these reasons...”

Thing is a tack driver, though! I wanted to sight in a new red dot, and it was shooting crummy old Federal 55g like a laser. Made me look much better than I really am.

If you're showing the gun at a Concours d'Elegance - Wikipedia they'll take 5-7 points off for the scratch, similar to having the finish mismatched under a hand guard.

If you're not showing it, nobody will care...

if the scratch bothers you , you can used some 20 grit emery cloth and buff it out
